So they began to trade goods with the Native Americans for food and weapons. One of the early traders in this area was Captain John Smith, who traded guns and ammunition with the Indians. Eventually, there were so many people living in Kendallville that it became necessary to build a church and a school. Kendallville is a small town in Anderson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 982 at the 2010 census. Kendallville is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first people to live in what is now Kendallville were Native Americans. They built their villages on bluffs overlooking the river and hunted game along its banks. In 1802, General David Porter founded Fort Dearborn on the south bank of the River Vermillion near present day Kendallville. He named it for his old home in Kentucky, which he had been forced to abandon during the War of 1812. David Porter's fort served as a settlement until it was abandoned in 1832 when settlers began moving westward into centralIndiana Territory. In 1835, John Prentice founded a farmstead called "Prentice's Landing" on the north side ofriver near modern day Kendallville. This location became known as Prentice's Crossing because two boats used to navigate it – one carrying goods and passengers upriver and another taking passengers down – stopped there each week while crossing the river. The crossing formed an important link between Henderson and Terre Haute at that time. In 1836, Daniel Webster bought land from James Hargrave at what is now Prairie Avenue in Kendallville for $1 million dollars ($ million today). Webster planned to build a reservoir here but never did because he died before he could complete his project. In 1840,Thomas Bledsoe purchased 640 acres (240 hectares) of land northeast of downtown from Ephraim Goodspeed for $10 per acre ($ billion today). This area would become known as Bledsoe Field after Thomas Bledsoe’s grandson who developed it into agriculture production that continues to this day including corn fields, soybeans, Dairy farming etc.. His grandson sold much of this land to other people over time resulting in many parcels still lying undeveloped within city limits today! When Andrew Johnson was elected President in 1860 he decided that Lake Erie should be opened up so commerce could grow along its waterside better than by shipping through Indiana waterways which limited access for navigation and trade inland-Johnson therefore ordered Colonel John Minton (USArmy officer) commanding 2nd Brigade 3rd Division Army Corps headquarters southwest of Prophetstown with orders to improve road conditions leading from Prophetstown thence via Knox City & Lebanon Junction eastward across Great Lakes National Forest (& thus bypassing Dayton)& establish new route northwest via Hammonds Plains then past Clinton & Wabash Rapids traveling generally southeast until reaching White Marsh where he relieved General William Troup newly appointed commander Transylvania deducting 1/3 mile due east from existing US Route 41 becoming US Route 43 following more ancient Indian Creek Pathway leading thereto originally established by French Ascania Company fur traders under name “Canal des Iroquois” some time prior 1785 or earlier

Kendallville is a small town in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,883 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute metropolitan area. Kendallville was founded in 1827 by John Ewing and his wife Lucy. The name came from an Indian word meaning "place where cotton grows". Kendallville was originally known as Pigeon Forge and began to be called Kendallville after General Samuel Kendall who fought in the American Revolution. He had been born there in 1763 and moved to Hendricks County in 1788. In 1827, John Ewing established a post office at what is now Kendallville and named it for him. The first store opened here on October 20, 1827. In 1830, the first schoolhouse was built here and served until 1901 when it burned down. A new school building was erected in 1903-04 that still serves as the downtown core of Kendallville today. The town sat on low hills until much later when they were developed with deep wells to provide water for farming operations and industry which has always been a significant factor in its history - since those early days when water was necessary for everything from growing crops to supplying businesses with electricity
