By 1840, they had built a sawmill, gristmill, post office, schoolhouse and several other structures. The Hudsons were replaced by others in the early 19th century including Smiths who arrived in 1827 and lived on what is now West Main Street. They also established a large farm with hundreds of acres (miles) of land that produced corn, beans and tobacco. Other early residents include Postmasters John Aiken (1836-1902), Elijah Hines (1839-1921) and Solomon Pratt (census taker for Kendallville). In 1847–48 Samuel Gibbs founded one of America's first cotton gin operations at what is now State Road 722 east of town limits. He became one of America's leading entrepreneurs in this new form of manufacturing which grew rapidly during the late 19th century thanks to advances in technology such as steam power and interchangeable parts made possible by innovations like vulcanization Shea butter started production at an industrial plant at Bridgeport northeast of town in 1905

Kendallville is a small town in Scott County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,549 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville–Jefferson County, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first inhabitants of Kendallville were the Pekin Missionaires who arrived in 1815. They built a log cabin on the banks of the White River and named it "Pekin." A post office was established in 1824, and by 1830 there were over twenty residents. In 1840, Kendallville had a school and two churches. The first church service was held on July 4th of that year. On December 5th of that year, an election was held to select a new school board members with George Witherspoon as one member from each ward (north-south). The new school board met on January 11th and elected James Peck as superintendent; he would serve until May 9th when his successor John Haldeman came into office. In 1851, William Hance became the first resident of Kendallville when he moved from nearby Terre Haute. He founded Hance's Mill which operated until 1865 when it burned down due to weather conditions. In 1861 Union soldiers sacked Kendallville during their march through Scott County for control of Fort Donelson in Tennessee; many stores and homes were destroyed including those owned by James Peck who lost his home valued at $800 (). In 1865 while Union troops were marching through Scott County they burned down Hance's Mill - this event marks the only time such an attack has been reported in Hendricks County since 1800 (). Harding & Hendricks Counties combined merged into Scott Township on February 14th., 1896 so Kendallville became part of that township also known as Terre Haute (later Evansville) Township limits extending northeasterly to Blue Jay Lake then eastward to West Point National Forest boundaries then southwesterly to Evansville limits at its junction with Harrison Township form what is now called Findlay Township in Findlay County today (). There are few visible reminders remaining from earlier times including some pioneer logs still standing outside present day KendallVILLE city limits
On October 15, 1814, a group of men led by Andrew Jackson and David Blount founded the town of Kendallville in what is now Evansville, Indiana. The town was named after Captain John Kendall who had been killed at the Battle of Horseshoe Bend in 1813. The first post office was established in Kendallville on December 12, 1814. In 1816, the first school was built in Kendallville and served students from local farms. In 1830, the first railroad arrived in Evansville and the Town Council voted to name the town "Kendallville" after the railroad station. On May 5, 1835, General James K. Polk delivered his speech "Address on Manufactures" at which he announced that America would become a republic and that Indiana would be part of this republic. After Polk's speech, many people moved to Kendallville because it became an important manufacturing center for America.
