In addition to downtown Jeffersontown includes many small businesses that have been around since before independence with some dating back to before even Confederation when land was donated by Elijah Nicholson from Hancock County: Dixie Bicycles, hardware store/grocery store chain Smith's Country Store; Bob Evans Restaurants & Catering LLC.; Harrah's Casino Hotel-Indiana Gaming Control Board-Cincinnati - one thousand five hundred employees occupying over six million square feet; Overdose Prevention Coalition-Jeffersonville - providing primary health care services to an estimated three thousand clients annually; United Way-Jeffersonville - providing financial assistance totaling more than $5 million per year to various organizations throughout their service area including seven thousand local food pantries and four thousand homeless families since 1994;
