Jeffersonville is a small town in LaPorte County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in Jeffersonville was George Washington Webb in 1814. He and his family moved to the area from Georgetown, Kentucky. In 1825, Aaron Beiler founded Beiler’s Mills on the banks of the White River. That year also saw the founding of Jeffersonville Academy by John Hensley and James Boren. The school provided education for students from kindergarten through high school; it closed in 1951. During World War II, Jeffersonville served as an airfield for USAAF bombers operating out of Terre Haute and nearby Conners Air Force Station No. 3 (later Terre Haute Municipal Airport). In 1949, Jeffco Industries became one of two companies to merge with American Cyanamid Company to form America Cyanamid Corporation (ACC). In that same year, ACC began developing a new line of tires called All-Terrain Tires which would become successful and remain popular to this day.

Jeffersonville is a small town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. Jeffersonville was founded on October 25, 1814 by George Rogers Clark and his family. It was named for James Jeffersons who had come to America in 1785. The original site of Jeffersonville was on the east side of the White River where today's Old Mission Road crosses it. A post office called Jeffersonville had been established in 1827, and became a community under its own name on July 10, 1830. The Panic of 1837 caused great hardship for many people in Indiana; especially those living near the banks of the river during that period of economic uncertainty. However, some saw opportunities in this difficult time and reinvested their resources into building up their communities instead of selling everything they owned and fleeing to safety elsewhere. In 1840, when all but two counties in Butler were added to Indiana as part of the new state government system, Jeffersonville voted to remain within Butler County. In 1850 – during one of history's most dramatic changes wrought by railroad construction – Jeffersonville elected its first blacksmith/forger and grocer John Crouch as Mayoralty Citizen #2 after passing an ordinance providing for voting rights for African Americans residing within Butler County limits (this ordinance notwithstanding). This watershed moment occurred just before racial integration began across much of America; yet here at home these men advanced efforts which eventually led to full civil rights for African Americans in Indiana public institutions throughout that decade beginning with passage of the Civil Rights Act (1964). Crouch remains an early figurehead remembered hereabouts long after he left this world; as does his brother-in-law Harry Vann Woodward II who ran unsuccessfully for Mayoralty upon Crouch's death in 1896 prior to becoming one half-owner (with J P Morgan)of The Star Tribune Newspaper Company which published both local papers until 1984 when it merged with Hearst Corporation forming what is now known as IndyStar Newspapers Incorporated In 1861 Union General William Tecumseh Sherman attacked Louisville along Interstate 65 while McClellan's Army was moving northward through centralIndiana following his victory over Confederate General Robert E Lee at Antietam Creek less than three weeks earlier outside Baltimore Maryland . Many residents took refuge inside Presbyterian churches until finally ordered by military authorities out into clear sight about 4 blocks from downtown where they proceeded "to slaughter their hogs", according to contemporary reports . 6 men including 2 farmers were executed by firing squad then scalped alive
Jeffersonville was founded in 1814 by General David Wilkinson and his wife, Catharine. The city was named after Jefferson, the first U.S. president. The city's first businesses were lumber companies and a jail. In 1829, the town became a school district and in 1846, it became a city. The city's first mayor was John Aiken. In 1861, the Union army burned down part of the town during its retreat from Vincennes; this destroyed many homes in the area and left Jeffersonville with less than 60 residents. Aiken was re-elected to office but resigned due to illness in 1865; he was succeeded by James Witherspoon Sumner. The population of Jeffersontown increased rapidly after this event; however, some residents decided to move away from the City due to its poor infrastructure and lack of opportunities for advancement within the community. By 1870, there were over 1,000 people living in Jeffersonville; however, by 1880 it had shrunk to just 100 citizens due to rising costs of living and population growth outside of the city limits
