Jeffersonville is a city in Jefferson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 22,844 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Louisville, Kentucky Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area around Jeffersonville has been inhabited for many years by Native Americans. On November 3, 1795, Ohio's first U.S. Representative to Congress from Indiana named James K. Polk discovered an area of land that would become Jeffersonville when he traveled northwest on the Trace Road from Vincennes to Logstown in what is now Marion County. He called it "Plymouth Township", after his home town in Georgia and because it seemed like a good place to plant trees and make a flour mill. The first white settler in this area was James Haughton who arrived in 1802 as part of the construction of Fort Dearborn on the east side of Jeffersontown Lake near modern day Lebanon (now Logstown). In 1806-07, John Sellers built a cabin on what is now North Main Street near present day Westport while he was working as an agent for Nicholas Goodrich & Company which traded with the French and Indians west of fort Dearborn and along today's I-65 between Louisville and Indianapolis also known as Indian Mound Road or White Earth Trail during that time period shortages were common due to war efforts against France entailed with Tecumseh's Rebellion which began early 1800s; that left much land unclaimed by American settlers because most people were focused on acquiring land for themselves through purchase or warfare rather than developing it commercially—a situation which would continue until after America gained its independence from Great Britain in1847—an event which caused prices for natural resources such as oil and coal to skyrocket beginning about 1840toggle In 1830–31 David Levy started building a gristmill on what is now South Main Street just south of current day Lafayette Avenue east of where US-64 currently runs; this mill became one of the largest concrete structures ever built up until then being used till 1957 when it burned down due to wind damage However Levy had actually started leveling ground earlier that year before starting erection but no one knew it at the time jackson county reorganized its boundaries so all old mills including Levy's were moved into Marshall County near Petersburg where they remain today still grinding corn; this happened during eastern border Ruffin Purchase crisis when railroad developers wanted access to Harrisonburg marketplaces northwestof Richmond resulting in forced saleoff some 250 square miles mostly rural Jackson County comprising parts of today’s Lafayette, Huntington Beach, Fountain Hills etc.—Jackson County formed primarily from southeastern Randolph Parish including present day Jeffersonville Blocks:Beginning about 1830 these young men decided they needed more space so they laid out streets gridlock fashion increasing acreage each decade ensuring every family had enough roomlarge fields continued being farmed until shifted focus towards wheat production following arrival of railroads especially local limestone quarries becoming available aiding development political subdivisions appeared map largely based upon town center location numerous churches followed soon after government services within newly created townservices districts became available rendering these services essential not onlyfor local Residents but also those living outside their boundaries

This highway is also responsible for giving the town its nickname: "The Gateway to Central Indiana." In 1957, when Interstate 465 was widened from four lanes to six lanes realignment occurred which included adding a east/west express lane connecting with I-465 creating what is now known as "Jeffersonville Avenue." Today this boulevard continues east into downtown where it meets Market Street which becomes State Street once I-465Ve splits off concurrent with both streets providing one long avenue running concurrently through downtown Jeffco-Lincoln Highway terminal business district including several large commercial buildings along south side of street parcels formerly comprising southeast side of city limits within City limits boundaries currently occupied by residences only some property remains undeveloped while others are being developed as residential areas or commercial center area serving various industrial users etc...

However, due to its location on Indiana's eastern border and its close proximity to Louisville/Jefferson County on one side and Kentucky on the other, Jeffersonville saw significant damage during war time including loss of buildings and citizens being killed or captured. After the war ended (1865), many residents returned home but some continued to live in Jeffersonville until it merged with nearby Kokomo in 1970. During this period there was much growth within both villages thanks to strong trade relationships between them which continue today. Today, Jeffersontown is home to about 1,500 people who are spread among several businesses including a library system that serves as a resource for local history books; an agricultural center that produces hay; a small hospital; several churches; two country clubs; two golf courses; three theme parks; five shopping malls; four elementary schools; six high schools; two post offices/mailboxes/pensaries/libraries/restaurants/bars/entertainment complexes etc.; all of which bring together more than 150 businesses worth over $5 billion annually! Additionally there are numerous non-profit organizations such as PTA(Parental Teaming Academy), Siblings In Action Clubhouse & Garden (SICAGC&G), Friends Of The Parks Foundation etc., all focused on promoting community involvement through education opportunities for children grades PreK thru 12th grade!
