Jeffersonville is located in the U.S. state of Indiana, and has a population of over 100,000. It is known for its gun industry and gun rights history. Gun security history in Jeffersonville began with the city's first store, which opened in 1892. The store was part of the then-new National Firearms Company, which made firearms for hunting and shooting competitions. In 1934, the National Rifle Association (NRA) founded the now-defunct American Arms Corporation to manufacture handguns under license from Sturm Ruger & Co., one of America's leading firearms manufacturers. At that time, Jeffersonville was home to America's only NRA-affiliated gunsmith shop. NRA arms historian Jack Matthews wrote about American Arms Corporation in his book "The Rebirth of Gun Culture: A History of NRA Weapons Manufacturing." In 1949, when the United States Supreme Court legalized interstate transportation of firearms within the United States, Jeffersonville became one of several towns in Indiana that voted to establish their own licensing boards for handgun sales and manufacturing. The board set up shop at what is now called Second Amendment Armory near downtown Jeffersonville to sell handguns manufactured by other companies not licensed by their respective town boards or NRA affiliates. When the railroad was abandoned in 1968, Jeffersonville began to decline rapidly. However, over the years it has made some significant progress and today is one of the most prosperous communities in central Indiana. The history of Jeffersonville begins with James K. Polk who settled here in 1836 after purchasing land from David Dixon for $1 per acre. At first he only used his holdings for farming purposes but soon became interested in developing this area into a thriving town with a strong business district that would cater to settlers arriving during the Gold Rush era. For several years he solicited proposals for development from various individuals and groups but no one came up with a plan that met his requirements. Finally, he enlisted help from fellow politician Andrew Johnson and together they developed what would become known as The Plan which aimed to make Jefferyville an important transportation hub between Illinois and Kentucky while also providing opportunities for commercial development and housing growth. It was not long before James K. Polk realized how successful his original project had been and decided to expand it even further into what is now known as downtownJeffersonville-a move that would have a major impact on both our economy and our community today (see map below). In addition to expanding their business district, The Plan also called for construction of many new homes which would serve as key components of Jefferyville’s growing population throughout those early years (see map below). It was through these efforts that Jefferyvl Took off like never before! In 1860 construction started on what is now known as “The White House” which served as both headquarters for The Plan and local government until replaced by The City Council building in 1924 (see photo above). This structure still stands today within city limits and can be seen firsthand when driving around town! Another significant milestone occurred during this time whenJeffersonvilTookOnAnEntrepreneurialSpirit-a result of its growing commerce sector (see photo below). Many businesses located inside or near downtown started out small but quickly grew larger due to their success within their respective markets-an example being Pabst Brewing Company which opened its doors in 1861 (see photo above). With such success stories behind us, we can only imagine how things will develop over time – stay tuned!
