Wright installed a Rheinmetall Red Dot Sight on top of the old post office building as part of his vision for downtown Jasper. Thissight became known as "The Wright Sight". From then until 1978, there have been at least two permanent red dot sights located in downtown Jasper- one installed by City Manager J.D. Wright himself and another by his successors John Burden and Connie Gorman- all with the goal of providing citizens with improved situational awareness while shooting at targets outdoors or inside their homes/ businesses!

Jasper, Indiana is a small town in the northernmost part of the U.S., on the Susquehanna River. It was founded in 1824 by John Jasper and named after his ancestor, James Jasper. The population was 1,014 as of 2010. It was first settled by Scotch-Irish immigrants who operated a ferry service over the Susquehanna River. In 1830, Alexander Hamilton became Indian agent for this area and he received permission from Iroquois chiefs to settle in this area. He purchased 640 acres (2 km²) of land from John Jasper and began construction of a log cabin called "Hamilton's Cabin". This cabin served as the nucleus for what would become Jasper. The first post office was established here in 1832. In 1840, Edwin Arrington donated land to form the present town square which now includes most of downtown Jasper and most of eastern rural Benton County. In 1850, Isaac Dearborn donated land north of Main Street to form what is now northeast corner lot on Railroad Avenue east of Interstate 453/Upper Division Road/Hwy 631 Alternate (now I-453). This donation formed today's northwest corner lot on Broadway Avenue NW which contains National Historic Landmark Fountain Square Park and also houses several businesses including First National Bank & Trust Company (1899), American Legion Post No 9984 (1927), United Methodist Church (1929), kindergarten through 8th grade School District 201 taught at Maple Lawn Elementary School since 1978; First Baptist Church located across from Main Street between Third Business Alley East/Broadway Avenue North and Seventh Business Alley West; Mapleton Middle School opened in 1959; current elementary school buildings were built between 1982-1984 adjacent to middle school with an addition - high school building that replaced it in 2006 A post office called "Jasper" was established at this location on September 12, 1834, under the name "Greene." By 1860, when it became known as Benton County seat – after county seat status had been given to Greeneville – Jasper had a population of 2144 people living within its limits only . As early as 1851 there were plans for railroad development through this area: The first train arrived at Vincennes Junction near present day Keystone Crossing on July 22nd that yearconnecting Chicago with Indianapolis via Buffalo via Vincennes Junction . On November 7th 1861 two more cars arrived at Vincennes Junction connecting Zionsville with Lafayette Illinois one coming from Cedar Rapids Iowa Territoryand one coming from Rockport Texas Territory . When these trains reached Jasper they found that all tracks had been cut off so they stopped near Wabash Depot before continuing their journey back home again
Jasper was founded in 1795 by General James Wilkinson and his three friends, John Sheehan, Nicholas Borowski and Hugh McLean. The town was named for Jasper County, Alabama, where Wilkinson had been born in 1757. Jasper was the county seat from 1800 to 1827. In 1830, it became the capital of Indiana Territory. The first courthouse was built in 1833 on the site of what is now State Capitol Square.
