Gun targets have been a part of Jasper, Indiana history for many years. The first target was erected in 1851 by A.F. Smith and Sons, a gunsmith business located on Main Street. The targets were made from barbed wire and consisted of three circles with one circle at the top and two smaller circles beneath it. On either side of each target was an open-air trigger guard that allowed shooters to fire at the targets without having to reach too far up or down. In 1865, J.D. Butler built a new Target House on Main Street which remain as the city's only surviving structure from that time period. The targets continued to be used until around 1940 when they were replaced by post-and-rail shooting galleries popular in that era which still exist today in use by the community and local schools

The first guns in Jasper were brought over by the French in the mid-19th century. The first gun target that was established in Jasper was a small musketball game called "Jasper's Private War". It was located at the corner of Seventh and Main Streets. This game continued to be played until about 1875. From about 1875 to around 1895, there were several other gun targets located in Jasper. These targets included a cannon, a water canon, and a fortification. However, these targets were not as popular as the "Jasper's Private War" target. In 1895, there was a large change when it came to guntargeting in Jasper. A new company called "The American Rifle Company" became active in town. They startedestablishinggun Targets throughout town. From then on, Jasper'sgun target history would be dominated by The American Rifle Company target facilities!

In 1715–1716 James I of Great Britain converted many Royal Artillery batteries from muzzle-loading cannons to breechloaders for use against European targets using newly developed artillery ammunition called “Powder Pigeon” shells (a modification of an old Musket round). The development of rifles in 1792 led to widespread international conflict; Napoleon Bonaparte's forces attacked Russia while England was involved inWW1; both sides came up with new technologies that helped them defeat their opponents: muzzle loading artillery was replaced by cartridge fire which allowed greater accuracy; railways made transportation easier and gave commanders more opportunities to move troops around without having them exposed ; these advances led eventually to modern warfare
Jasper is a small town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. It was named for General John Jasper, who fought in the American Revolution. The population was 792 at the 2010 census. Jasper is located on the west side of the Kosciusko River. The first European to visit Jasper was Captain James Cook in 1779. He note that "the country here looks very fertile; but I could not find any water." This lack of water probably led to the founding of Jasper by George Washington and his party in 1784 as a military post on the west bank of the river between Fort Harrison and Fort Dearborn. It was moved to its current location in 1802 when Congress authorized construction of a new fort at this spot. In 1808, General David Orderly founded what is now known as Mount Vernon College in Jasper and named it after himself and his wife Mary Alice Stopford Shaler Orderly. The college became one of five collegiate institutions chartered by Indiana during President Andrew Jackson's term (1829-1833). During World War II, many people from Jasper enlisted in the military or served with their local units throughout Europe and Asia. Some notable civilians who lived and worked in Jasper during this time are Harry SAFARIAN (a 1946 graduate of Mount Vernon College), Arturo Toscanini (founder and conductor laureate of Rome's La Scala Opera), Roy Wilkins (UCLA chancellor), Edwin Aldrin (NASA Administrator) – all men who played significant roles during America's Apollo moon mission –and Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin Sr., son of Neil Armstrong, astronaut, who became first man on Mars
