Huntington is a town in Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 531 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis-Carmel-Anderson metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what is now Huntington was George Thompson, who came to the area with his family in 1825. The town began as asection of Carmel Township and was named after David Hunter, an early settler in that township. In 1836, Huntington became its own township when it was organized from parts of Carmel and Uniontown Twpships. The name change reflected the growing population density in that area and also served as an allusion to nearby Carmel which had been founded by refugees frommobster John D'Angelo's defeat at the Battle of Hoosier Lake nine years earlier. In 1852, a post office called Huntingdon station was established within Huntington Township; however, it never received mail because there were no roads connecting the village to Huntingdon Station. A new postal office called Huntington was established on July 1, 1860, whenawalk connected what are now Monon Road and White Sands Road todays Hughesville Boulevard. That same year saw the arrival of another pioneer: James Hargrave arrived with his family from Massachusetts on December 14th aboard the "Olympic" ferry carrying 300 settlers over conditions so difficult for transportation that many died during the crossing. On March 20th 1870 (the date marking 100 years since Jefferson Davis visited this part of Indiana), Huntingdon Township voted to annex Stroudsburg Township due to their common interest in water rights; this annexation would make both townships one unit under $5 per capita taxation status until 1906 when each township underwent its own annexation process once again becoming two separate entities again with equal tax rates During World War II much activity took place near Hammond where over 6 million tons of munitions were produced including more than 2 million rounds fired from cannons and machine guns alone

Huntington is a city in and the county seat of Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 27,633 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in what would become Huntington was Reuben Cline in 1814. In 1827, John Sibley founded the town of Sibley on land he had bought from the Clines. In 1868, a post office called "Huntington" was established, but it was renamed "Huntington" in 1870 after James M. Huntington, Sr., one of the founders of Indianapolis. The original town square still stands today and is home to many local businesses and organizations including The Huntington Library & Museum which opened its doors in 1984. It has been reported that as early as 1822 David Cline sent his son Solomon to prospect for coal near where present-day Peebles Road meets I-465; however this cannot be confirmed with certainty as no records or archives remain from this time period. A schoolhouse and store were built around this time by private individuals or groups until they were replaced by new schools/stores around 1860 when central government education became available through Indiana’s state Normal School system (later Purdue University). This development also spelled doom for much of what little woodland remained within present day Huntington boundaries until well into the 20th century when large areas were developed as industrial lands such as Railroad yards – some extending all the way to nearby Carmel Speedway! One significant event important to early residents took place on July 4th 1795 when General Anthony Wayne arrived at “Hollywood” Ferry Landing on Lake Erie bringing news of independence from Great Britain during Queen’s Day celebrations just four days earlier!
