The first permanent expansion of the Huntington community took place when a group of investors purchased a tract of land north of the town in 1845. The area became known as "The Hill", and was used for farming, grazing, and mining until it was annexed by Huntington in 1865. The new city grew rapidly after incorporation, and by 1880 there were over 1,000 residents living in what is now the downtown district. In 1902, the first public school opened in the city limits and attendance began to grow rapidly. By 1912, there were six schools within the city limits and many more attending out-of-town academies. In 1916, an electric substation was built within the city boundaries and streetlights began to be installed throughout the city. In 1925, work started on expanding Huntington into what is now its eastern side with the construction of a waterworks system that would serve both townspeople and neighboring communities. One of Huntington's most significant achievements during its early years was its role as both a CENTER OF INDIANA COMMUNITY activity (the original name given to Indiana State University) as well as an important agricultural center. With advances in technology andincreased production opportunities during World War II, Huntington continued to grow economically while becoming known for its outstanding cultural amenities such as art museums, theaters, music venues, nightlife options, etc.. However ,the late 20th century saw some modest declines in economic activity due primarily to increased competition from other towns across central Indiana . In 2000 ,Huntington lost much of its significance when it merged with nearby Carmel . However , recent growth has seen renewed interest in Huntington – including developments such as a new educational complex named after former Mayor James Dolan – which indicates that even though it may not have all been great times recently for this once vibrant community – it still retains much potential for growth
Huntington is a town in Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 7,048 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The name "Huntington" likely comes from the English word "hunte" meaning "a small hunting preserve." The first settler in what became Huntington was James Prentice in 1814. He and his family moved to this location from Ohio. In 1835, John Witherspoon built a cabin on the present site of downtown Huntington. This area was then known as Indian Hill Township and later as Maple Grove Township. In 1853, Daniel Boone donated land to form the nucleus of what would become Huntington Township. At that time it included most of west side of modern-day city block between West State Street and Centre Avenue north of IUPUI campus; east side extending south to I-465; and parts of today's Monroe and Purdue universities blocks south of Center Avenue east of I-465. By 1870, much growth had occurred in central Indiana due to railroad construction which brought jobs to many towns in central Indiana including Huntington In 1907, the first post office in what became Huntington opened In 1916, work began on creating a large reservoir near where current day Old National Pike crosses over Donnellson Creek for use by local farmers The project failed but resulted in the nickname "The Dam That Failed" being given to nearby Allen Park Later that year Iroquois Lumber Company established an mill at what is now Boulevard Street just across from old US 20/IUPUI University Drive (now known as East 50th Street). This mill continued operations until 1936 when it closed because lumber prices decreased during World War II In 1951, Transamerica Corporation established its research center here adjacent to IUPUI campus which remains one of Transamerica Corporation's largest employers today

The first example was called a “tang” or “angle-yarder,” and allowed for adjustment of both elevation and windage (distance from target). Huntington is a small city in the northwest corner of Indiana, United States. It is the county seat of Huntington County and lies on the north bank of the Monongahela River. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. The area that would become Huntington was first settled by Native Americans in 1788 as part of what is today Greencastle Township. In 1814, a group of English settlers built a log cabin on land that would become Huntington after arriving from England on an expedition led by General Anthony Wayne. The town was founded as a frontier settlement in 1821 when two brothers, James and John Ironside, bought 2,000 acres (0.8 km2) of land along the river for $6 per acre ($60 to $100 per km²). They named their new town after George Washington Irving’s estate at Newport News, Virginia. TheIrving family had been friends with General Wayne since he served as commander at Fort Dearborn during the War of 1812. In 1825, William Claymore became mayor and developed what would become Oneida Park into one of Shermantown's most important commercial districts. He also purchased property east of downtown to create Claymore Square which became known as "the heart" or "heartland" of Huntington. From its beginnings as a frontier community, Huntington quickly grew into an important transportation hub for central Indiana due to its excellent access to waterways and roads leading eastward to Michigan and Ohio; it also became well-known for its agricultural production such as cornbread stuffing (a dish made from ground pork stuffed with bread crumbs, onion salt and pepper), hams and other meatsballs called "pudding bowls," fresh applesauce (developed from apple cider vinegar mixed with sugar), Holmes Brewery beer (originally manufactured by Adolphus Holmes in nearby Fort Wayne) and many other products
Huntington is a city in and the county seat of Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 27,829 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Huntington County was John C. Dearborn on July 12, 1814. The town of Dearbornville was founded on October 16, 1815 by Myron Hixson and James Dolan after they were expelled from Fort Harrison near present-day Indianapolis. On December 1, 1816, General David Hunter negotiated an agreement with the Shawnee Nation under which they ceded all their land east of the Wabash River to Indiana as compensation for hunting rights that had been taken from them since before European settlement began in this area. In November 1861, during Indian Wars fought by both sides over control of Native American territory in central Indiana, General Nathaniel Lyon's Army discovered and burned a village consisting of about 100 frontier settlers at White Clay Creek near present-day Greenwood Village. This event became known as "The Battle of White Clay Creek". At least one person died as a result of the firefight (probably also including some local residents). On February 3, 1865 – two days after Abraham Lincoln was assassinated – Union troops under General Ulysses S. Grant burned down three villages southwest of Greencastle while raiding Confederate holdings around that location.
