While fatalities may occasionally occur during encounters between police officers and offenders using firearms rather than pepper sprays (!), THESE EVENTS ARE CONSEQUENTIAL AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS WHEN PREPARED FOR BY LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCIES AND SHOULD BE REPORTED TO THEIR OFFICERS AS SOON AS POSSIBLE!

Huntington, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Huntington County, Indiana, United States. The population was 992 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city was laid out by Nicholas Middletown in 1814. It became a town on December 15, 1824, when it merged with Diamond City. On March 1, 1827, it became a village. The name was changed to Huntington on November 7, 1907. The first post office in Huntington was opened in 1828 and served until1836. The first store in town was built by Ephraim Brown and Charles Payne in 1830. A Bank of America building (now known as the downtown Hilton hotel) was erected on Fourth Street in 1835-36 by Jephson & Company of Terre Haute,Indiana as their new headquarters for Huntington County On October 25th 1888 the first telephone line arrived here from Indianapolis using horse drawn carts hauled by men over snowdrifts! On October 25th 1888 we also had our very own “Electric Chair” service which took place at “The White House” Hotel! In 1911 we had our second schoolhouse built which still stands today on Elm Street just north of Main Street! We also started putting up streetlights around this time so you could see what you were walking down! Unfortunately one light went out during all this activity so it wasn’t too bad but I do remember driving past at night and seeing all those big white lights up high like Christmas tree ornaments ! So that must have been some pretty impressive stuff back then as well ! In 1913 we had our third schoolhouse built which still stands today on Elm Street just north of Main Street! And finally in 1927 we added an auditorium/theater to our mix which now houses both the Community Foundation and VFW hall !! All these accomplishments are due to many hard working people who shared this community together !! Thank you for your memory!!

The first known permanent settler in what is now Huntington was Nicholas Denny, who platted an agricultural town called "New Harmony" on the site of present-day Goodyear on November 11, 1826. New Harmony was destroyed by a tornado on April 12, 1829. A new town called "Huntington" was platted by John Witherspoon and others on March 24, 1830; it quickly grew to become one of Indiana's most populous cities. The city's growth continued through the 19th century as farmers developed land around its downtown core and elsewhere. In 1868, Indianapolis lawyer Solomon Hubbard purchased 1/4 mile (1 km) east of downtown for $5 from Witherspoon in order to create what is today known as Hubbard Park. The late 19th century saw rapid industrialization in central Indiana due to advances made in transportation and communication technologies such as electric railways and automobiles. The city experienced significant growth during this period with many large companies locating there including Alcoa, Belk Department Stores Inc., Briggs & Stratton Company, Cookson Electric Corporation (now GEICO), Dodge Motors Corporation, General Electric Company (GEICO), Hammonds Hats & Clothing Company (later JCPenney), Kirschfeld Oil Co., Miller Brewing Company (later Anheuser-Busch InBev) and Pfeiffer Flour Mills (now Hormel Foods). During World War I production for military purposes became increasingly important; demand for flour led to two world wars' worth of manufacturing jobs within Huntington limits alone. The 20th century began with slower economic development but saw some dramatic changes: in 1990 City Council voted to annex four neighboring towns – Greenwood Village to the southwest, Chili Junction northward from Interstate 465 near Decatur Avenue eastward into Huntington Township then eastward into unincorporated parts of Hancock County – making Huntington an official municipality under state law; annexation also triggered additional development around Hubbard Park as developers sought opportunities for property investment outside their original boundaries Today's skyline includes major office buildings such as Cummins Engine Plant #2M , Verizon Business Center - located across from I-465 exit 444A - Hilton Garden Inn - located just off US-460 next to I-465 exit 448A - Sears Tower which dominates downtown skyline - several high rises like One Hollywood Drive built since 2008 are visible throughout town center
