Mayflower Massacre, 1835: The Mayflower sailed from Plymouth, England on July 16th, 1835 with 157 passengers and crew. On the voyage, three members of the ship's crew were killed by Native Americans. After disembarking in Plymouth, the colonists elected Captain James Cook as their new captain and sailed east. They arrived at Boston on November 11th after a journey of almost two months. There they were met by an Indian war party led by Chief Wampum. Cook did not want to fight and decided to turn back home. He was replaced as captain by John Smith who also decided not to fight. On December 15th,1835, while sailing back home, the Mayflower ran into a storm off Cape Cod which destroyed part of her hull and left her stranded onshore for days without food or water. The passengers were finally rescued by HMS Bounty which arrived on December 17th with supplies and boats.

Passenger traffic stopped after 1850 because of conditions caused by political unrest throughout America during this time period called "the Great Famine." During this time many men left their homes to join military engagements oribaiting Independence Hall which had been captured by British forces several days earlier on April 14th 1775.; gradually but surely over time more residents chose to remain within their own communities rather than move away from them due to changing economic opportunities or other factors like settlement patterns change
