Huntington is an unincorporated community in Huntington Township, Hamilton County, Indiana. It was founded in 1837 by George Stephenson and James H. Hardin as a trading post on the Wabash River. The post was renamed Huntington in 1853 after Samuel Huntington, a wealthy New York City merchant who donated land for the town. The town became a village in 1907 and was named after Samuel's father, Ebenezer Huntington. In 1915, the village merged with the larger town of Hammond to form the current municipality of Huntington.

The history of firearms in Huntington, Indiana can be traced back to 1824 when two brothers, Nicholas and John Winchester, founded the first gun shop in the city. The shop was located on State Street and served as a training ground for local militias. In 1829, John Winchester opened a second gun store on Market Street which became one of the most populargun stores in the city. The business continued to grow until it closed its doors in 1845. After its closure, Nicholas Winchester reopened his brother's business and continued to sell guns until his death in 1865. He is credited with being the first person to commercially produce firearms in Indianapolis.
