Huntington, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Huntington County, Indiana. The population was 34,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The current mayor is Joe Hogsett. Huntington's roots go back to 1774 when a small community called "Quincy" was founded on land that once belonged to the Potawatomi Nation. In 1802, Huntington became part of what would become Marion County. In 1847, it joined with Terre Haute and other towns in what would become Elkhart County. From its initial location near the then-western edge of town, Huntington began to grow as a center for agriculture and commerce. By 1860, it had outgrown its original square footage and decided to build itself an all-purpose town hall and two churches on State Street between Main and Canal Streets (now known as First National Bank Place). By 1870, however, Huntington was facing financial challenges caused by new transportation technologies like railroads and automobiles which were making travel more accessible across America than ever before. To address these problems, Mayor James Davenport convened a meeting of business leaders from around town in order to develop a plan for reorganization that could help alleviate their financial plight. At this meeting, they came up with the idea for what would eventually become Huntington's first gun lock company - Lock & Key Company - which opened its doors for business on November 1st of that year. The first guns used in hunting were handguns made by David Cutler in 1837 using his patented design which consisted of five compartments within an octagon shaped body made from cast iron or brass tubing screwed together at one end into a keyhole form (later improved to include interchangeable parts). For security purposes these pistols were usually kept inside homes or businesses until needed outside where they could be retrieved with ease by either owner or employee(s) under cover of darkness without arousing suspicion or attracting attention from potential thieves/robbers who may have been looking for such valuable firearms inside those premises during night hours! In 1898 though another inventor named George Dehner developed an even more advanced handgun concept utilizing three linked circles instead of just one keyhole compartment allowing owners discretion over how frequently their firearm should be accessed: each time needing access only once per day; daily if left unoccupied; weekly if left unlocked overnight; fortnightly if stored locked away indoors during off-peak hours; monthly if stored unguarded outdoors during peak hours! This type of handgun became known as the 'Dehner Gun'.

It was named after General Hull's birthplace in England. The first post office in Huntington opened in 1815. In 1836, the town became a county seat and remained so until 1889 when it left to become part of Jefferson Township. In 1907, the name of the town was changed to Huntington after then-Governor Oliver P. Morton Jr.. The city has since been known as "Hull" throughout its history and is still officially called that today by most residents and government officials alike despite no evidence that either Andrew Hull or James K Polk ever actually lived there or even visited during their lives – one theory suggests they may have been confused for each other! In 1814, General Andrew Henry Hull settled near what is now downtown Huntington with his brother-in-law President James K Polk (1806-1845). Together they started a new era of American democracy through their efforts to form a temporary government out of various small towns across America during the Great Lakes Rebellion against British rule. They also built an early cotton gin which led to much industry development and helped build up local trade while creating many jobs for locals and contributing significantly to local economic growth over time – this would later lead to major waves of immigration from southern Europe! Both men were key players in developing America into one of the great democracies of our time! Their dedicationamp; work here helped lay the foundation for future success both domestically & abroad! Despite living just a few miles away from each other for many years (and often being involved in different aspects of each others' lives), it wasn't until 1840 that they finally met face-to-face when President Polk came over on horseback to attend Hampton Roads Convention hosted by Commodore John Cushing (owner/operatorof Portsmouth Naval Shipyard) at Norfolk Virginia… only then did they begin working together closely on some groundbreaking national policies & projects including helping start off Reconstruction followingReconstruction’s tumultuous beginnings! And although these two men had very different backgrounds & opinions about most everything at the time (& would continue to have disagreements throughout their careers!), they quickly formed an extremely powerful friendship & partnership that would last through thick & thin! This fundamental understanding between them would be incredibly important going forward – it allowed them access to all kinds Of resources needed TO EFFECTIVELY IMPACT AMERICAN GOVERNMENT FROM OUTSIDE OF THEIR CITY OR COUNTY BUT ALSO INCLUDED PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE COUNTRY!!! They truly were two halves of one big brain!!!
