Hobart, Indiana is a town in southern Harrison County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,557 at the 2010 census. It is the hometown of American astronomer Edwin Hubble and professional photographer Edward Steichen. The town was founded on May 25, 1853 by Captain James Caldwell and his wife Eliza Ayer Caldwell. The first scopes in Hobart were built by Dr. George Washington Hamlin in 1792 and were made of metal with a viewing tube only about one inch wide and less than two inches long. The first telescope to be used for astronomical observation in America was built by Drs. John Herschel and David Brewster at Bathsheba Tavern on Delaware Street in Boston on November 14th, 1795. In 1840 Edwin Hubble was born here in Hobart and spent his childhood here before moving to Seattle when he became an astronomer at Johns Hopkins University. In 1954 amateur astronomers from all over the United States gathered together at Kalamazoo Legion Hall to inaugurate the Hobart Amateur Astronomy Association (HAOA). The following year HAOA organized its own observing campaign called "Galactic Nighthawk" which saw observations from sixty-six telescopes across thirty-six states including sixteen from Hobart! HAOA has continued annual observatory campaigns through 2018 with observations taking place both during summer nights as well as during winter mornings when there are no stars visible due to darkness!

The population was 1,613 at the 2010 census, making it the smallest city in Indiana and one of the most rural villages in the state. Hobart is also home to The University of Notre Dame, one of America's largest university campuses. The village was founded by a group of German immigrants who arrived there in 1818. The first settler was Peter Bernheimer, who built a cabin on what is now Main Street. In 1828, John Fitch established a store here and another two years later built a house on East Court Street which served as Post office until 1851 when it moved to its current location on State Road 12 near downtown Hobart. Hobart began acquiring land for school purposes during this time and by 1857 had acquired all but three acres (0.8 km²) of present-day State Road 12 east of downtown where it currently stands today as well as portions of what are now Westwood Drive and North High School Lane north of US-24/I-465 junction. A new high school was completed here in 1907 and became known as Northwest High School before being renamed Hobart Jr./Sr., Hobart Tech., and finally Notre Dame High School following that school's closure in 1988. In 1933, the old high school building burned down and replaced with an addition that remain standing to this day although most classes have since been relocated to nearby Northwest High School which opened its doors in 2006 after renovations costing $25 million dollars In 1965, hobartschool merged with nearby West View Elementary School creating one largeschool system serving both villages though each village retains its own governing body including an elected board made up Ofcrs & Principals from respective schools

Hobart, Indiana is a town in Vanderburgh County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Evansville–LaGrange, IN-KY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit what is now Hobart were French traders on their way to Fort Wayne in 1674. They built a trading post there and named it "Hobart". A local Indian chief called the place "Kiowa" because he could see no good land beyond the river. In 1786, an act of Congress designated the area around Fort Wayne as a site for a new military post. The fort was founded by General Anthony Wayne and named for George Washington's father-in-law, Daniel Boone. The post served as both an arsenal and garrison until 1795 when it was sold to Colonel Arthur Sturgis for $10,000. In 1816 Hobart became one of three towns in Vanderburgh County that were consolidated with Evansville into one large county under Pennsylvania Governor John Adams'. The first courthouse in HobARTt was built in 1809 by James Ewing and remained in use until 1909 when it burned down. A new courthouse was erected on the same location and used until 1984 when it too burned down; this building still stands today as part of downtown HobARTt's history museum In 1986–1988 two sisters from Galesburg IL created a competition to design a new downtown· cladding project which included removal of all Confederate battle flags from public property within city limits· During construction reclamation work revealed numerous Revolutionary War cannons dating back to 1779 located on principal streets near former courthouse
