Hobart, Indiana is a town in Porter County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis–Carmel–Anderson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to visit Hobart were French colonists who landed on the east coast of what is now Porter County in 1671. Jesuit missionaries travelled to Hobart in 1764 and built a mission there. A post office was established in 1806, and by 1828 the community had grown to include six stores and seventy-four families. In 1854, a school wasbuilt and named after General James K. Polk; it continued operation until it merged with other nearby schools in 1959. In 1865, lumber interests organized an express company to haul logs from Illinois to Indiana through Porter County; this led to development of businesses such as the "Hobart Lumber Company." The railroad arrived in 1870 and helped spur growth; by 1910 Hobart had become one of the largest towns in Porter County with over 2,000 residents. As industries shrunk or moved out of reach during World War II (when hobarts saw increased competition from surrounding cities), local people turned their attention towards agriculture; today's economy depends largely on tourism and small-scale industry. In 1956, hobarts seceded from Porter County and formed their own government undershallers called the "HobART Corporation". Headed by Mayor Hargrave Waddell, this quasi-judicial body ruled independently from county government while still claiming full authority over public education decisions including elections - something that rankled some locals who felt they were being taken advantage of by their more powerful neighbors. After nearly fifty years as an unelected entity with no real power or impact outside its own borders (until 1988 when townshipische Verwaltungseinheiten were instituted), he departure finally allowed for genuine local democracy within hobart's governing institutions which has steadily grew stronger since then - culminating in an election held on November 4th 2018 which resulted in Mayor Griffen winning his fourth term with 71% majority

Hobart, Indiana is a small town in northeasternIndiana and the seat of Daviess County. The population was 5,521 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The name "Hobart" first appears on maps in 1785 as an Indian name for what is now known as downtown Indianapolis. At that time it was called Frenchtown or Fort Wayne. In 1812, General William Houstons army burned down the fort to prevent its capture by British forces during the War of 1812. As a result, Hobart became an important trading center with fur traders from Canada and England who used it as a staging ground for their trade goods and horses overland to southern Indiana. In 1837, when territorial governments were organized across central Indiana Territory, Hobart became one of four towns chosen to serve as the county seat for Daviess County; other towns chosen were Fort Wayne (1837-38), Terre Haute (1839-41), and Lafayette (1842-43). The courthouse in downtown Hobart was completed in 1840 and served until 1906 when it was replaced by the current building which stands today on Market Street between First Avenue and Harrison Street. From 1836 through 1860, there were three mayors of HobART: Wm Hoadley (1836-40), John Fenton (1860-61),and Josiah Gregg (1862-64). During this time HubART grew rapidly due to two factors: natural growth caused by increased trade with Mexico City via what is now I–95; also, brickmaking began in earnest thanks to Colonel John Sibley's investment which produced high quality bricks for use in buildings all over central Indiana including courthouses and schools throughout much of Ohio and Kentucky where he had settled after his victory over Native Americans at Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1800 near present day Portsmouth, IN The first brickbuilding factory opened near present day North Bend shortly after Sibleys arrival which led directly to increased demand for bricks throughout north central Indiana - including HobART - especially given its strategic location just south of I–95 on both sides of the river bottoms creating perfect conditions for rapid economic development . In addition to brickyards within HobART itself numerous smaller businesses sprang up along Grand River Road serving customers inside or outside town Limits while farmers grew crops close thereto providing their own regional transportation link into larger markets further north
Hobart, Indiana was founded in 1829 by John Stephenson as a stop on the route of the Erie Canal. The town grew rapidly and by 1830 had a population of over 2,000 people. In 1851, Hobart became the capital of Indiana and was renamed Indianapolis.
