Hobart, Indiana is a town in Scott County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute–Brownsburg–Muncie Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first human settlement in what is now Hobart was founded by Captain John Smith and his crew on September 17, 1699 when they landed on the eastern shore of Lake Michigan. They named their new village after the Scottish town of Aberdeen which they had visited earlier that year. The first permanent settler in what is now Hobart was James Dickson who arrived in 1802 and built a cabin on the banks of the Mad River. Dickson's cabin still stands today and is a historical landmark. Hobart became an active community during its early years with many businesses being established including a blacksmith shop, grocery store, bank and post office. In 1907 the city limits were expanded to include present day parts of Scott County including what are now downtown Hobarton and areas north of Warner Road. By 1920 there were more than 100 businesses in Hobart with over 2,000 residents During World War II much activity took place within the town as it served as a munitions plant located near Warner Road. After the war nearly all manufacturing ceased and most residents left for other towns in Scott County except for some who remain today working at various businesses within downtown Hobarton or north of Warner Road

Hobart, Indiana is a small city located in the US state of Indiana. The city was founded in 1836 by John R. Hobart and his wife, Eliza Jane. In 1863, the town became a county seat and was renamed Hobart after its founder. The population of Hobart decreased from over 10,000 in 1990 to 4,811 as of 2010. The first settlers to inhabit what is now Hobart were traders from Boston who arrived in 1814. The area that would become HobART was then used for agriculture and grazing animals until the early 1800s when settlers began building homes on land that would later become downtown HobART. In 1836, John R. Hobart announced he would build a town in this location on land donated by him and his wife Eliza Jane. He named the new town after himself because he believed that people should be able to call their own settlements home (rather than being limited to those within a certain radius). The first buildings were built close together and it wasn't until 1840 that the first steamboats started docking at the riverfront for transportation between Indianapolis and other parts of Indiana. By 1845, there were also several stores, hotels, schoolhouses and churches located in downtown HobART; all of which remain standing today! The growth of downtown HobART continued through the years with businesses such as Ford’s Theatre opening up shop in 1886 followed by Goudy & Laughlin Lithography Company manufacturing aluminum cans during World War I which accounted for much of hobarts GDP! However during Prohibition-era America many businesses closed their doors including banks along with many restaurants which left Downtown HPB without an anchor tenant for over 25 years! During prohibition many residents fled to neighboring states however due to HCAs high taxes which resulted in dysfunction within local government; this led to increased crime rates across all parts of Indiana! Unfortunately lack of infrastructure/investment caused these problems before they could be tackled effectively leading to major collapses during hard times such asduring the Great Depression when unemployment skyrocketed! Despite this downward trend starting around 1930 most people still managed to hold onto their homes although some did sell off assets such as farmland!!! Downtown replaced much smaller original town center called Main Street while larger blocks north and east were developed into residential districts known today as Broadway & Meridian Streets while smaller blocks south are known today as Jefferson Avenue & Third Street! This redevelopment project allowed for more shopping opportunities with other areas becoming less important due largely to freeway construction begun during this time period!! After 50 years or so there are few remaining landmark buildings apart from one main business district currently housing another business district (itself rapidly redeveloping) plus parkland adjacent!! Overall it can be said that following cities growth pattern has generally been towards commercial areas often displacing more traditional neighborhoods!!!!
