In 1898, a group of men in Hobart,Indiana set out to create the world's first gun swivel. The men were inspired by an invention that had been developed years earlier in England. This invention allowed shotguns to be fired from more than one direction, which made them more effective against enemies on the battlefield. The team that created this technology named their invention the "Gun Swivel." The Gun Swivel was soon put into use by soldiers and police officers all over the United States. In 1916, it was finally patented and made available for purchase to the public. With its new design, people could now fire shotguns from any angle they wanted without having to worry aboutarie stability. Over the years, GunSwivels have become iconic pieces of American culture. They can still be seen today at military bases across the country and are used by law enforcement officials all over the world. Hobart, Indiana is a city in and the county seat of Wayne County, Indiana, United States. The population was 17,901 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Wayne County after Terre Haute. Hobart was founded in 1836 by Captain James Knoppers as a post office on the banks of the White River. In 1851, it became an incorporated village and then an unincorporated community before becoming a city on December 2, 1906. The history of Hobart began with its founding as a post office on the White River by Captain James Knoppers. The name "Hobart" was derived from nearby Fort Dearborn which was also named for him. The first settlers were mechanics who came to the area to work on local farms during the early 1800s. One such mechanic was John Pritchard who built a log cabin near present-day downtown Hobart in 1835. William Ritchie also built a cabin near present-day downtown Hobart around this time too. By 1840, there were over 20 homes/campsites in what is now downtown HobARTehnowesville and many more scattered throughout various rural areas surrounding it including parts of Lake Michigan east of town along Spring Creek and north of town alongOODark Creek ( site now occupied by Willard High School). In 1851, Captain James Knoppers organized what would become known as "the First Indian tribe," or "The Potawatomi Nation." This group consisted of about 100 individuals from several villages across central Illinois that had joined together to resist American encroachment into their territory northeast of Chicago during the mid-19th century. After successfully defeating American forces at Battle Of Malden Prairie on November 3rd, 1851 – resulting in General George Armstrong Custer's death – they set off into new territory where they would live until Removal Order #5 (dated September 7th, 1830) forced them westward under British occupation in1853… eventually leading to their ultimate relocation to Nebraska and Oklahoma according to US Census data (#2). Captain James Knoppers' post office served as headquarters for many years before moving elsewhere within months due to financial problems caused by increasing mail traffic through much easier transportation methods available at that time like steamboats sailing upriver rather than using wagons pulled by horses or oxen downriver like later postal service practices). The first building constructed specifically for use as an outdoor post office located just northwest cornering Main Street & Third Avenue NW today remains one of only two remaining originals from when HobARTehnowesville operated as an unincorporated community dating back to its incorporation days nearly 50 years ago! Today's oldest continuously operating business still exists within City Limits - The Post Office Museum! It wasn't until May 15th 1862 when violence broke out between abolitionists prospectors and members of the Centralia Native Americans over disputed land claims near modern day Northwest Side Railroad tracks intersection just south of Town Square - resulting in three killed & 25 injured - that hostilities truly started between both sides with ongoing skirmishes ensuing until 1865 when all Proctor Township natives living east & northwest0f town finally surrendered following long standoff typical prior thereto (& final peace Treaty negotiated Feb 1st 1865)….. permanently ending any hope any remnant proctors may have entertained EVER achieving self determination thru peaceful means….& thus / forever sealed away those staunch abolitionist beliefs which continue unabated even unto this day (& still influential among some current residents)……..
