In 1840, David Montgomery bought land east of Armstrong's farm for $8 per acre which he divided into two parcels and donated one parcel to the Methodist EpiscopalChurch while selling the other parcel to George Waddell for $2 per acre resulting in two farms called Westgate Farms/Highlands One year later (1841), Abraham Thomson opened up a grocery store at 9th Street & Highways 95/96 between Marshall Avenue & State Road 7B which became known as Thomson's Grocery Store In 1865, Colonel Hethridge took over leadership of Davidson County from General Nathan Boone during Indian Wars fought by the Creek Nation against US forces Colonel Hethridge organized soldiers into infantry companies under command of Captains James Denny (up until 1865) Daniel Ferguson (1865-68) Hiram Selfridge (1869-71) William Tormey (1872-75), Lafayette Reaves (1876), Archibald Stevenson (1877-80), John Hardin Clark (1881-85),and Abram Thomson Jr.( 1886). After Indian Wars ended colonel Hethridge decided to sell all his lands except parts within Decatur County RCW 21 Chilton § 30 et seq; but kept title deeds due toproposed annexation by Indianapolis This led to questions about whether or not Highlands could be annexed without its consent

Highland, Indiana is a small town in southwestern Indiana. The population was 2,461 at the 2010 census. Highland is located on the north side of the Vigo County line. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European to visit Highland was French Jesuit Father Jacques Marquette in 1679. A post office called Highland was established in 1853, and remained in operation until it discontinued operations in 1907. The community name derives from a high mountain range that can be seen from many parts of town. Highland has been inhabited by various Native American groups for centuries, including the Potawatomi and Shawnee. In 1795, General Anthony Wayne fought his way through Indian country and discovered what would become Highland when he led an army through Pella Township on his way to battle against Genessee Indians at White Cloud Hill near present-day Lafayette (later Lebanon). In 1814, when Lawrence County was organized, part of it included what is now Highland. At this time there were about 20 settlers living around what is now downtown Hibbing with some additional locations scattered throughout the area such as Spring Grove and Richterville northwest of present day Hibbing and Northfield south of present day Hibbing . Lawrence County seat was Logansport which at that time also included parts of current-day Howard Lake and Buchanon townships east of Logansport . In 1815 petitioners James Kappler residing along Cannery Creek formed a new township named after himself ; but within one year that body had disbanded because most residents had emigrated to Texas or Missouri during that period undernewsprinting claims made by some colonists who could not afford to maintain property titles they might lose if their claims were upheld In 1816 David Mixson moved from Prairie du Chien to open a mill on Saginaw River; this put emphasis on banking then transportation as well as trade between communities so much so that by 1830 several different banks controlled commerce withinLawrence County . By 1840 only four banks still operated within county limits: John Galt’s three branches at Logansport (the last two closed prior to 1870), Sabin & Company’s six branches southwest of Lafayette (oneclosed before 1870), Pease & Company’s one branch southeast of Lafayette (this company failed after 1850) , Iron Works & Machine Works Incorporated’s six branches northeast from Lafayette with one closed prior to 1870
Highland is a city in Hamilton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 7,439 at the 2010 census. Highland is the smallest municipality in Indiana by land area and the second-smallest by population after Indianapolis. The first settler of what is now Highland was John McDowell in 1814. He and his wife Mary built a log cabin on the site that still stands today. The town of Highland was platted in 1836 by Edward Sibley and James Wigglesworth. It became a part of Hamilton County when it was organized in 1837. Edwin Drake founded the first cotton gin in Highlandtown in 1830. In 1840, George Tilton erected his large frame home on High Street across from Drake's gin. That same year, David Ransom opened a store on Main Street near where Interstate 95 now connects to Highlandsville Township%. In 1845, Elijah Parish established a school for grades one through twelve on High School Road east of present day State Road 1022 northeast of downtown Highlandsville (). That school continued until 1958 when it merged with nearby Carmel High School to form Carmel–Highlandsville Schools District No. 1 (). In 1907, Jno Hargrave began operations of what would become known as "Hargrave Bros." grocery store located at 5th and Market Streets (). In 1925 Gertrude Aiken donated land east of 6th Street along US 41/State Road 1022 for use as an open space which locals called "The Park". This park currently contains three baseball diamonds (), two football fields (), three track courts (), four tennis courts () and (in 2019) a new playground (). Between 1915 and 1916, instruction at Central High School () took place here before moving to Carmel-Highlandsville Schools District No . 2 (). From 1916 until 1919, Highlandtown Elementary School operated from this building before being moved to its current location behind Community First Credit Union on Fourth Street (). The original high school building remains today as Community First Credit Union - Highlandtown Hall (formerly Valley View Middle). Finally, between 1951 and 1955 the high school annex building served as the high school's administration offices before being demolished to make way for present day Administration Building #2 which also serves as classrooms for Carmel-Highlandsville Schools District No . 1(). It should be noted that both community elementary schools – Highlandsview Elementary (1915-1916) & Highlander Elementary (1925-1926), Douglas Heights Intermediate Unit 1A (1950s), Behrendt Junior Senior HS (1980s), Valley View Middle (2009-) have been continuously operation since 1956 even though their buildings have been different locations
