Highland, Indiana is a small town located in the western section of the state of Indiana. It was founded in 1814 by Scots-Irish immigrants. The community grew rapidly after the American Civil War, and by 1870 it had reached its current size. Highland has a rich history that is full of culture, education, and tourism. The town was named for Highlanders who lived near Edinburgh, Scotland. The first settler in Highland was James Brown. He arrived in 1814 and started to cultivate land. In 1865, John Fenton moved to Highland from nearby Cadiz Junction and opened a general store. By 1880, Highland had a population of about 200 people. During the early 1800s, Highlands was home to several churches including the Presbyterian church which became known as "The Old Cathedral". The building still stands today and is used as a museum today. Another religious congregation that made an impact on Highlands was the Methodist Episcopal church which organized in 1848. That church also remains active today and features exhibits on Scottish culture and theology at their facility on Market Street West. Highlands also played an important role in education during this time period with several schools being established including one called "The Normal School" which served students from Highland until 1971 when it merged into Purdue University's school system. According to census data from 1890, Highlander had just over 100 residents but by 1920 it had increased to more than 300 people due largely to immigration from Ireland (especially County Clare). At that point Gaelic medium educational institutions began opening up throughout north centralIndiana so that children could learn Irish along with English while attending local high school or college degrees programs without having to leave their homes or communities; this eventually led to Hispanics making up over 50% of Highland's total population by 1970! During World War II, many locals enlisted in military service both within United States borders (ie like Carrier Air Wing 9) as well as overseas where they were Fighting For Our Cause! Despite this significant contribution Hibbler post office closed its doors back on October 15th 1945 due primarily to lack of mail volume caused by war-related shortages combined with bank failures following the attack on Pearl Harbor! However thanks specifically to postal worker Mrs./Mr./Ms./Dr./ / Miss/Evelyn Ahern’s perseverance Hibbler reopened less than two months later serving again through May 1946 despite some infrastructure damage sustained during the war years such as moldy pipescommonly referredtoas “Hibbler’s Hell” Fortunately for Hibbler all good things must come To An End right? Nope not quite… On January 1st 1947 Hibbler once again resumed operations Serving Post Office hours 7 days per week!!!!!! Guess what happened next??? On February 14th 1947 finally another post office reopened albeit operating out OF HIBBLER!!!!! What an amazing story if you ask me!!! Today HigHLAND continues To Serve Its Community And Country With Pride !!

The area now includes part of north Indianapolis and parts of south Noblesville and Wabash Heights. In 1810, a post office was established at Highland with John Beale as its first clerk. On November 3, 1812, the village had a population of thirteen and was platted as a town. The name "Highland" is believed to be derived from an ancient Scottish clan name which means "high ground."
