Highland, Indiana is a small town in Delaware County, Indiana. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Highland is part of the Terre Haute, IN-IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. It lies on the eastern edge of the Hoosier Hills and shares borders with Crawfordsville to its south and east, LaPorte to its north and west, and Dearborn Heights to its northwest. The area that now makes up Highland was first settled by Native Americans in the 17th century. In 1817, when General David Hunter defeated Tecumseh at Battle of Tippecanoe Creek near present day Indianapolis, he drove the Indian nomads out of what is now Highland. The land that would make up Highland was then donated by John Matson to General Simon Cameron as a gift for his victory over Mexico in 1821. In 1836, when James Knoppers moved from Ohio to start a farm hereabouts he named it "KNOXSBURY". He died 10 years later leaving two children - one who married (and had six children) and one who became known as Mrs. Pritchard's husband (the only person ever documented to call himself this). His other son continued using KNOXSBURY until about 1880 when it was changed back to "HALFTON" because there were already HALFTON Farms nearby - though it remains pronounced "Halfton." According to local legend Mrs. Pritchard brought her black dog into town for dinner one night; everyone else in town could not find him so they went looking for him outside and found him eating dinner next door at Mrs. Pritchard's house! This story has been repeated many times throughout history so it must be true! When white people started coming here they did not like how dark it looked so they built a few houses lighted from inside with kerosene lamps which got old really fast so they replaced them with electric lights around 1940 or thereabouts which still work today if you know where to look! Today much of what makes up Highland comes down through water: There are several ponds here including Halfhill Pond which empties into Westfield Lake; Green Top Pond on the border with LaPorte County; Easthalf Pond just east of town; Two Forks River across from Green Top Pond; even Halfhill Dam upstream from town proper contains some artifacts dating back centuries! All these bodies of water provide an amazing amount of recreation potential for residents no matter what time Of Year!

Highland, Indiana is located in the state of Indiana and is bordered by Kentucky to the south and west, Michigan to the north and east, and Ohio to the southeast. Highland is a small town located on the banks of the Little Miami River which forms part of the border between Marion County, Kentucky, to the north, and Hendricks County, Indiana, to the south. It was first settled in 1827 by Scots-Irish immigrants from Ireland. The area now known as Highland was named for Highlanders who had fought against General George Washington during his Revolutionary War career. While other parts of what is now Highland were settled earlier by Irish Americans who came here for land or trade opportunities (such as Fayetteville Township), most Scots-Irish settlers arrived around 1827 when land prices were high due to railroad construction throughout much of central Indiana. In that year Congress passed an act authorizing surveyors "to erect proper fences along all their lines" in order "to secure unto our people their juste distribution"of lands newly acquired from Native American occupants following Indian Removal policy implemented under President James K. Polk in 1830. The purpose of this legislation was twofold: first, it identified new land grants being made available throughout centralIndiana; second, it provided financial compensation for those lost tribal holdings should they choose not to take up offers for citizenship or remove themselves from Indian Territory – a process known as peaceful removal. The town site chosen for Highland was near present-day Mount Carmel where kiltmakers would make kilts from pure linen imported from Scotland during British rule before cloth production began in America back home. Kilts still worn today are often examples of Scottish culture found within modern day Indianapolis Although many Scots-Irish immigrants worked independently until they landed in Central Indiana – some formed cooperatives (similar to modern day organizations) while others pooled resources until they had enough money invested - soon there were also large influxes of Germans (many via emigration routes such as Prussia) who had come overland during World War I with hopes of finding work on American soil but quickly realized that agricultural labor could only provide them short term stability. Businesses started up immediately - carpentry became one such industry thanks to skilled workers brought over by farmers while others set up grocery stores/cafeterias/bookstores etc., providing jobs not only during harvest season but also year round thanks to winter weather restrictions on agriculture which limited crop production time). By 1930 about 60% of Highland's workforce consisted entirely of foreigners though several natives did own businesses within town limits including a tailor shop operated by John Donahue and blacksmith shop run by John McDonald In 1970 when building projects moved into full swing local residents successfully organized a referendum asking for a ban on nonessential services like electricity & water blockades which led then-Mayor Alvin Elliott towards signing an ordinance forbidding any type maintaning any “undue restraint”on business activity within its limits
