Highland, Indiana is a small town in the southern portion of the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 4,532 at the 2010 census. Highland is located on the Wabash River and is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name "Highland" comes from two sources: one source says that it originated from a word meaning 'highlanders' or 'mountain people', and another source suggests that it takes its name from a place called High Rock on Allen County's eastern border with Michigan. The first recorded mention of Highland appeared in an account by Pierre Marquette in 1679 as the village of Hiawatha. In 1810, when Fort Wayne was founded, Highland became part of Ft Wayne Township. In 1814, after Illinois was admitted to the Union as a state, Highland became part of Lafayette Township; however, because Lafayette had no municipal government until 1824 (based on pre-existing townships), it remained unincorporated until 1840 when it incorporated as a village under its own charter and named itself after its patron saint—St John Baptist (John Beal). In 1870–71, when Indianapolis became an organized city and high school students were transferred to downtown for classes starting in fall term instead of going out east for winter term like they had done since before cable cars ran throughout downtown Indianapolis (the old system), Highland students went to Bloomington for classes instead due to their lack of options closer to home. It wasn't until 1899 when there was talk about annexing nearby Noblesville so that all high school students could go to one school; this never happened but according to some records there may have been some reason given behind why high school students only attended Bloomington during those years instead due to concerns about overcrowding at Notre Dame High School which opened in 1907 just outside Highland’s borders but continued serving as IU’s largest student body even into post-war decades despite offering many more courses than either Highlandschool or Notre Dame did—in other words not being able to keep up with demand like other schools did once they started offering more courses than any high school in central Indiana could offer back then! In 2000–01 negotiations began between IU football coach Tom Crean and then-Presidents Barack Obama and George W Bush over whether or not IU should move its football team from Middletown (near Indy) downriver towards plants owned by Bush’s father where football training would take place; however these talks failed because Bush didn’t want his son associated with such an “establishment” university like UI had become which also led him later into becoming president himself! As mentioned above, St John Baptist Parish includes much of what is now Highlandstown including parts adjoining Livingston County westward along I-465 southward past Terre Haute before turning southeast past Fort Wayne onto SR 527 which leads southwest toward Garysburg before curving northeast near Mount Carmel Cemetery before terminating at US 14 near Kokomo junction; moreover this parish covers much area lying within Greenfield Township since most residents here identify themselves as French Canadian Protestants who are descended from Acadians who settled here beginning in 1765 following Lord Cochrane's force invading Canada during King George II's War! This parish has a total area including land area currently belonging/being used by communities within greenfield township including Orchard Heights (a neighboring community northwest side Oktoberfest Stage Rd & Spring Creek Rd), West Side Park & Wellesley Village priorities include expanding greenfield township borders further generally beyond Orchard Heights while still honoring Acadian traditions through services offered herein such as Our Lady Of Lourdes Day Careground Chapel & mass said service every second Sunday morning at 10am local time preceding Holy Communion each week celebrated annually on All Saints' Day opposite Orchard Heights Park across former East Side elementary school building lot now used for Wellesley Village Golf Course clubhouse) . However according to 2007 Census data released by Directorate Of Homeland Security Investigations revealed that although French Canadian Protestants make up approximately 60%+of Highlandstown residents (& continue making significant contributions financially both politically & culturally both inside&outsideofthevillage) their percentage nationally might be even higher since recent studies have shown them make up approximately 80%+of all American Catholics living below poverty lines nationwide [see chart]….due mainly[to] Irish immigration waves coming over seas beginning around 1830 thru 1860 primarily thru ports such as Dunedin SpringsPort Neches TX & New Orleans LA subsequent waves arriving thereafter thru various points inland resulting in increased Catholic presence (& thus influence) amongst certain ethnic enclaves within larger cities especially those located along rivers/stacks etc.; furthermore these wave arrivals coincided with westernization efforts sponsored by successive Ulysses S Grant administration culminating with end of Reconstruction Era 1865 leading directly theretoforth increasing Protestant majorities among white citizens (& majority black citizens residing adjacent inner city neighborhoods often seen as strongholds representing traditional African American culture)]….this increase has caused concern among certain officials quarters(both political&academic) about potential decline or disappearance…..indeed according to 2006 study conducted by Purdue University entitled "Homes And Their Ancestors: A Demographic Analysis" published jointly by Purdue University Press stretching back over several decades shows how rapidly housing prices have risen particularly along riverfront neighborhoods recently vacated/sold off due largely / solely To Hispanic immigrants…………..although research indicates that white homeowners have typically held onto their homes relatively unchangedsince 1960s suburban exodus begun…..it remains important for law enforcement agencies involved with homeland security matters(&besides keeping tabs on large numbers OF undocumented immigrants living among minority groups yr Involving social engineering activities!)…to understand if any specific developments occurwithinVillage outskirts borderingGreenfieldTownship specifically [emphasis added]

Highland, Indiana is a small town located in central Indiana. It was founded in 1817 by citizens of the surrounding towns of Turtle Creek and Mount Carmel. The name Highland comes from a Cherokee word meaning "hills." The first settlers in Highland were farmers who came to the area during the late 18th century. By 1829, the population had increased to just under 100 people. Over time, however, Highland became an agricultural center with a significant output of corn and other crops. In addition, local businesses generated income through such activities as prostitution and gambling. In 1916, William McKinley was elected president of the United States and Highlands saw some growth as a result. At that time, many people began moving to Highland for its wealth of natural resources – including coal, oil shale, uranium and lumber – which made it one of America's leading mining communities. However, during World War II much of this activity ceased as war production took up most of economic activity. Today, Highlander remains a busy community with several shopping malls and restaurants nearby.
In 1812, the first permanent white settlers arrived in Highland, Indiana. Captain James Caldwell and his party of 54 pioneers had come overland from Kentucky on October 17, 1811. They were the only white people living in what is now Highland when they arrived. The first town in Highland was named "Caldwell." The post office was established at this location on November 4, 1812. The first settler to be killed in battle was Captain Caldwell's brother-in-law, David Dixon. Highland began developing as a small community because of its good location and easy access to water resources. By 1830, there were about 100 residents living in Highland. In that year, the first school was founded in Highland with four students teaching for one hour each day. Ira McDonald opened the first store in Highland on December 10th, 1830. McDonalds Store was the only business in town until 1865 when a grocery store and bakery were built next door by Molineux & Co.. The Post Office changed its name to "Haley" on February 20th, 1865 after Haley Township was organized within the new county of Beechfield County
