In 1969, Hammonds were among those communities located within newly formed Hamilton Township although they maintain their own government (and public school district) separate from that township's other residents and businesses. Hammond has experienced some growth since then including annexation of neighboring townships (Fenner Heights in 2002 and Dearborn Heights in 2004), construction of new schools and businesses along I-465 (the current day Monon Road), as well as increasing development around I-465 itself such as Allendale Mall whichopened in 2006 and anchors an upcoming mixed use development called "Century City". Additionally, several smaller community nearby such as LaPorte are also experiencing increased growth due to their proximity to major shopping malls or Interstate 465 corridors respectively; both areas offer considerable opportunities for job creation for residents living within commuting distance thereof - something that cannot be said for most rural villages situated outside urban areas when it comes to job markets/employment opportunities/residential growth rates

In 1857, local officials founded what is now known as Central Illinois College (later renamed UIUC). This institution helped spur economic development within the town while also providing education opportunities for locals and improving social conditions for all citizens alike. The college continued to play an important role in town life through its affiliation with many civic organizations; these include the Republican Party (until 1861), American Legion (1860-1865), First National Bank (1868-1870), American Woman's Club (1915-1920) and Knights of Columbus (1915-1920). During World War I, Hammond played an important role as one of several American cities bombed by German forces during World War I hostilities between Germany and Great Britain/Great France respectively: On October 7th 1915, chemical munitions factory located adjacent to Hull City Hall were destroyed by German air attack; five days later on October 11th 1915 gasoline storage tanks located adjacent to United States Steel plant were also destroyed by German air attack; finally on October 15th 1915 ammunition store located adjacent to Ford Motor Company plant was also destroyed by German air attack which left over 100 people dead or injured across three different locations within minutes…all resulting damage totaling $206 million USD! These bombings not only killed civilians but also caused extensive destruction throughout various businesses within city limits including enginesheds ($38 millionUSD), homes ($96 millionUSD) & churches ($22 millionUSD).
