This work finally got started in 1828 when 12 men from New England met with Chief Big Body of the Potawatomi tribe at Fort Dearborn (later renamed Chicago). They agreed to create an alliance against Great Britain so that all Native Americans could unite against British aggression. Unfortunately for the colonists, war did not materialize out of thin air–the British actually had been planning it all along! In fact, hostilities between England and France had been building for years before any American colonists even showed interest in joining forces against them! But because America was fledgling as a nation at the time, there wasn't any other way for these people to express themselves than through warfare! So instead of helping each other out (which would have given us our first real example of international cooperation), our Founding Fathers just went ahead and got ourselves into trouble! anyways… after years of struggles against enemies old and new (and sometimes both at once!), [the colonists] finally formed into townships under Bostonian leadership called “New London” on December 4th [1829], within sight but miles apart from each other."
