Greenwood, Indiana is a small town in the central region of Indiana, United States. The population was 5,725 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Chicago metropolitan area. The first scopes were used by Indians in what is now Greenwood and nearby Clearwater counties as early as 1795. By 1805, they were being used by white people to look through banks of telescopes to view natural phenomena such as eclipses and comets. In 1826, Greenwood became an incorporated town under the name of Terre Haute. In 1933, the "Greenwood Chronicle" began publication and remains today one of Greenwood's most important newspapers. The paper has been published continuously since then. OneNotable resident from Greenwood during this time was John Dickey who played in both leagues for the Indianapolis Colts from 1951-1956 and also served as Mayor from 1959-1968; he helped lead Greenwood to victory in its first municipal election ever held on November 3rd of that year! That same year saw another famous resident come to town - pitcher Gene Morency who would later become manager for the Milwaukee Brewers (now known as MLB). He pitched one game for their affiliate with Greenville before joining them permanently in Milwaukee in 1969! It wasn't until 1978 when a new high school was built near downtown that scopes started being used primarily for educational purposes rather than just observation/understanding nature itself!

Greenwood is a city in and the county seat of Greenwood County, Indiana, United States. The population was 17,723 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis–Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. Greenwood was founded in 1814 by General Simon Kenton as a post office on the site of what is now Interstate 465. The name "Greenwood" may be derived from an Indian word meaning "place where there are many trees." Greenwood has been inhabited by various cultures for thousands of years. In 1814, General Simon Kenton founded Greenwood as a post office on land that he had purchased from the Chaplains' Society for $1 per acre. The first postmaster was Samuel French. Frenchman served until 1821 when he was replaced by John Lovejoy who stayed until his death in 1829. On October 25, 1830, Greenwood received its charter as a town under English law from Governor Christopher Wabash. In 1840, Greenwood became one of seven townships within Crawford County when it was created from parts of Ottawa and Posey counties. That year, it had 498 residents and consisted largely of farmers and their families living near those woods that dot the landscape today. By 1850, however, Greenwood's population had grown to 1,500 and it began to attract wealthier people along with more businesses erected within its limits such as stores (the first being Fenton's Grocery Company), churches (Stroud Methodist Episcopal Church built in 1865) and homes for prominent citizens such as Judge Elijah Beadle ( builder of what is now State Road 10). During this time period African Americans worked side-by-side with whites in most aspects of life including farm labor; however they were not considered equals due to segregation laws which prevented them from owning property or enjoying certain types of social rights enjoyed by white citizens. This situation changed following World War II when racial integration began throughout America through the Civil Rights Movement led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., which ultimately led to victory over segregationism in America through legislation like Brown v Boardinghouse case et al.. Despite this progressivism throughout American society during these years there remained some pockets that discriminated against AfricanAmericans both inside and outside their own towns/cities including Greenwood where policies still exist today preventing African Americans from gaining access to education or employment opportunities despite efforts made by municipal officials throughout the city
Greenwood was founded in 1814 by Daniel Greenwood and his family. The Greenwood family operated a store on the corner of First and Washington Streets for many years. In 1865, they moved their store to what is now known as the Daniel Greenwood Library. The library was built in 1907 and is one of the oldest libraries in Indiana.
