Greenwood has experienced many changes over time including being annexed by Lafayette in 1923 and becoming part of that city's larger community; experiencing rapid growth during World War II due to its strategic location near military bases; experiencing decline during the 1970s due to suburbanization; recovering during the 1990s when new businesses began opening up;and currently experiencing rapid growth thanks to increased visitation from nearby Purdue University

As time passed, more people began moving into Greenwold as agricultural production increased statewide while commercial development flourished nearby. By 2000, there were only 350 residents living in Greenwold despite its long history as an important rural community in central Indiana
