The first knife in Greenwood was made by Nicholas-Jacques Cartier in 1795. He traded knives with Frenchmen and developed what became known as the Cartier knife family which includes some of the most well-known brands today including DeWitt Knives and SheATH (formerly called Survival Knife). In 1876, Dr. George Wernick designed and patented the first practical sharpener for knives and this patent remains in effect to this day. Knives have been used for various tasks throughout history such as hunting, farming, protection against disease and violence; however, they remain one of humanity’s most important tools. Over time, many other businesses have emerged around natural resources exploitation and race relations: gas stations/marinas were built along Route 66 during World War II; an armory opened in 1951; a tire factory opened in 1978; and now there are several restaurants and bars associated with nearby Hammondsville Junction shopping center). Today's Greenwood comes alive with nightlife during summertime thanks to numerous outdoor concerts held at local venues or downtown squares throughout the year (including "the Grove", which has become home to several high-end stores since being renovated into an arts precinct). There are also various educational opportunities available here including private academies for both boys and girls as well as public schools run by district employees that offer exemplary education programs within their borders (eagle characters from "A Song Of Ice And Fire" frequent this school district!).
