Greenwood, Indiana is a small town in Stephenson County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,481 at the 2010 census. Greenwood was founded in 1853 by abolitionists and Methodists. It became an industrial center during the 19th century. During World War II, Greenwood produced munitions for the war effort. The village has since lost its manufacturing base and gone through a series of changes in economy and demographics.

Greenwood is a small town in Elkhart County, Indiana, United States. The population was 583 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Elkhart–Ryan Micropolitan Statistical Area. Greenwood was founded in 1824 and incorporated as a city in 1897. The city government dissolved on September 3, 2009, due to budget cuts. The first settler in Greenwood was Nicholas Green who arrived in 1824 from England. He built a log cabin on the current site of Greenwood High School. A post office called Greenwood was established in 1827, and remained open until it closed in 1902. The first store opened at what is now the corner of South Center Street and West Third Avenue. In 1865, George Stephenson donated land for a school system which became known as the "GreenWOOD" School District; this district included all of present-day Elkhart County except for several villages within its boundaries: Coweta (now Terre Haute), New Salem, La Grange (now Lafayette), and Goshen (now Goodyear). In 1897, when Greenwood incorporated as a city, it had an estimated population of 507 people; by 2000, that number had grown to 693 residents. The downtown core remains one of the most vibrant areas of town; many businesses have been located here since before incorporation: Holmes & Holmes Law Offices (founded 1957), Pritchard's Camera Supply (founded 1922), Lighthouse Coffee House & Donut Shop (founded 1936), and First American Bank/The Gildersleeve Hotel/Motel (established 1935). During prohibition years at various points throughout history Greenwood experienced large-scale crime: bootlegging took place during Prohibition days at the local train depot on Third Avenue; prostitution also flourished around this time near South Center Street between Second Avenue and Fourth Avenue; however no convictions were ever made stemming from these activities. In 2002nd percentile income levels were reported for both cities combined with Terre Haute having higher levels while Lafayette came up just behind with 83%. While there has been some decline over time with median household incomes dropping about 10% nationwide between 2000-2010 according to US Census Bureau data - specifically for Elkhart County - growth across all five cities has seen modest (+0%) rates over that same period despite overall decreases nationally (-2%). Today Greenwood still contains much architectural significance including two extant Carnegie Libraries - one dating back to 1909 and another replacing an earlier structure that burned down in 1907 - both designed by Central Park architects John Burbank and Edward Sheehan respectively . As well as numerous other buildings constructed prior to or during prohibition including such notable institutions as Elmira Jail operated by Sheriff Balthazar Gillespie which heldvernight inmates awaiting trial until 1911 after being convicted of larceny charges – even then only three convictions resulted out of 1125 inmates held there during his tenure! Additionally today's downtown area features several popular bars such as Joe's Barbecue & Brewery (!opened yet) which offers oktoberfest style beers on select days along with live music every Friday night starting at 9pm or Saturday morning ending around 2am!, Goulet’s French restaurant featuring high end cuisine nightly starting at $25 per person plus tax + gratuity also located Downtown along with several smaller bars scattered throughout supported mostly by word-of-mouth advertising

In 1948, Greenwood became an official city with its own government and began hosting local events such as parades and festivals. Today, Greenwood is known for its rich history and unique assets which make it an attractive place to live, work, or visit.
Greenwood is located in the southeastern corner of Indiana and is bordered by Mishawaka to the north, Winamac to the east, and Dearborn County to the south. The population was 2,711 at the 2010 census. The city was founded in 1814 by an Englishman named Greenwood and his wife Jane. Greenwood serviced as a stop on Indian Path before it connected with present-day I-465.
