Greenwood is a town in Porter County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,527 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is the home of Greenwood State University. The townsite was laid out in 1826 by John Greenwood and other landowner investors under the provisions of the Indiana Territory's General Corporation Act. The first settlers arrived in 1829, and by 1835 all but one family had moved to what is now Greenwood Township. A post office was established at Greenwood in 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1902. Greenwood began acquiring land for statehood on February 14, 1907; when that day passed without a vote on whether to become a state or split off from Michigan, Illinois became the new 10th state and Greenwold became its capital. In 1912, it annexed neighboring unincorporated communities of White Sands and Noonday Valley. That year also saw the opening of Cloverdale Elementary School (now known as Good Shepherd Catholic High School) which served as the schoolhouse for most of Greenwood's early years before being torn down in 1951 to make way for a more centralized educational facility. In 1958-59, American International Pictures made their first film at Cloverdale with "The Wrong Mans". For many years after that movie's release there were several weekends each year where fans could come see developing films right outside Cloverdale Elementary School windows! According to 2011 Census data., Greenwood has seen some growth over the last decade or so: its population increased from 1,524 people in 2000 to 1,572 residents as of 2010 census figures – an increase rate of about 2%. However much like any other small community there are challenges faced daily by residents like smaller budgets for infrastructure upkeep (like streetlights), lack of parking spaces for larger vehicles and infrequent events drawing tourists away from their local businesses/townsfolk alike (locals get pretty excited aboutordering pizza during summertime). Despite this recent growth however; few if any new homes have been built within town limits since 2000! In fact almost all new housing development within Porter County takes place within 5 miles or less radius of major cities like Indianapolis or Chicago; making it difficult for locals who cannot afford those prices and distances to purchase even basic necessities such as groceries or home repairs outside their own neighborhoods/townsfolk’s properties

Greenwood, Indiana is a small town in central Hoosier County, Indiana. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Statistical Area. Greenwood was founded on December 10, 1827 by John Greenwood and his family. The town was named after Greenwood's Creek which flows through the town. The community grew rapidly during the early years of its establishment, thanks to its location at a crossroads and because it became an important stop on the Underground Railroad. In 1841, Greenwood had a school and two churches; both were built by local citizens with help from federal funds given toIndiana as part of the Morrill Act. The first church building still stands today and is used for services every Sunday morning since it was completed in 1840. In 1870, Greenwood also received its own post office which continued use until it closed in 1907. During that time period, Greenwood experienced several key milestones including becoming one of the earliest towns in Indiana to be incorporated as a township (1872), being renamed "Greenwood" after Union General Ulysses S. Grant (1879), and hosting its first county fair (1893). Additionally, various businesses such as banks and grocery stores soon opened up in downtown Greenwood while new homes were constructed throughout thetown center. By 1925, most of what remains of Downtown Greenwood had been erected including many of the original buildings from earlier eras like John Green's Store which still operates today as well as numerous other historical landmarks like the old jail house where residents would meet before going into elections or religious services back then In recent decades however, there have been several negative changes taking place within our community including high rates of crime and blight that have taken hold throughout much of downtown area over recent years A major effort initiated by Mayor Greg Ballard has begun to reverse some of these trends with renovated buildings being brought back into use once again while also creating new opportunities for business development along main artery which now boasts more than 350 businesses clustered around five blocks long
