Greenwood is a small town in Putnam County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,521 at the 2010 census. Greenwood is located in the EasternIndiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first black person to live in this township was Mrs. Fannie Lou Henson who moved from Indianapolis to Green-Wood in 1940 after living there for six years as a maid to white residents; she had come from Newark Delaware as an infant with her family during slavery before being adopted by white parents and living on their farm until she emancipation (1849). In 1851 he married her sister Alice Pugh and they lived together until his death in 1862 at age 73 following an illness at home which led to his retirement from business operations; Mrs Pugh continued managing Beaver's Store until 1955 when it closed down due to lack of patronage after World War II ended.
