Greensburg is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 1,590 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Fort Wayne–Kokomo metropolitan area. The first settler in Greensburg was Samuel Davenport in 1827. The town was named for Colonel George Green, an early settler and a member of the territorial legislature from New York. However, because it was located on Indian land, Greensburg did not become a part of Indiana until 1836 when it became part of the new state of Indiana as part of Black Township and then White Township. The first school in Greensburg was built on what is now North High Street in 1830 by John Gentry and his son Nathaniel Gentry. In 1835, Reverend James Caldwell donated land to build a school which would serve both whites and Indians. The first class graduated from this school on December 5th, 1835 under the guidance of Rev Caldwell's daughter Eliza Jane Caldwell-Wright. Today's high school building dates back to 1926 with its current name being Irwin Riddle High School after founder Irwin Riddle who also contributed money for its construction along with other local citizens such as Ollie Wetherbee and Harry Pappas Sr.. In 1906, Mrs Lillie Fenton moved out west to become an administrator for her brother-in-law's successful water pipeline company but she always maintained some connection to her native Greensburg through hosting numerous functions throughout the year at her home called 'Fenton Grove'.events like these helped keep pace with advancements within our community while honoring Mrs Fenton's roots culturally as well as politically speaking since she herself had resided here since childhood! In 1951, Mr & Mrs Thomas Jansen bought property adjoining their old home on North Main Street which they used as their primary residence until they sold it in 1978; thereafter they lived primarily at their antique store located just east of town limits before retiring completely in 2000! In 2006 Dr & Ms Linda Knoppers purchased 3 acres bordering Green County line westward from Town Limits (just northwest of current day Ironton) which they continue to use as their primary residence today! Development beganPhase One around this time including opening up that large lot into 2 homes so that more people could have access to quality living space closer to things - much like how Cedar Park has morphed over time into one big neighborhood! Phase Two included installation/completionof several blocks away from original site features such as streetlights and sidewalks - making way for even more residents getting involved directly with downtown business operations (!!!)phase 3 will be adding yet another block or two onto that originally planned complex addition thereby completing what started off only as phase 2 redevelopment - making GREENSBURG one complete community all encompassing !!
