In 1865–66, David Dixon built a large frame schoolhouse which he called “Dixon’s School House” (). Unfortunately this building burned down several years later but not before its beautiful stained glass windows were lost forever. In 1896–97 more than $5 million worth of improvements were made to the original school building including new heating/cooling systems, new roofs and replacement doors and windows throughout; this helped make Greenburg one of the most improved towns in centralIndiana during that time period!
