Greensburg, Indiana is a town in Kosciusko County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,918 at the 2010 census. Greensburg is located on the west bank of the Kosciusko River and is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. It lies just east of Evansville. The first firearms were manufactured in Greensburg by local farmers in 1853. Firearms began to be used for hunting and protection from Indian attack during the late 1800s and early 1900s. The town's first armory was built in 1906. By 1912, guns were being importated into GreenSBurg from all over the country as part of a gun control movement that aimed to keep handguns out of the hands of criminals and outlaws. In 1916, Greensburg became one of two towns in Kosciusko County (the other being Lafayette) to have their own police department which lasted until 1967 when it merged with nearby Evansville's department. In 1920, Greensburg established itself as an agricultural center with production of corn and soybeans providing most economic activity until sufficient demand could be met through industry or trade unionism. A new cotton gin was erected in 1924; this addition helped make Greensburg one of America's leading cotton-growing towns by 1930. Continued growth during World War II led to increased industrial output and employment opportunities for many people in greensburg including many manufacturers who produced munitions such as machineguns, cannons, rockets and torpedoes During peacetime there was much residential development but little commercial or industrial development because no arms manufacturing took place outside military contractors or government officials producing small parts for precision weapons systems

In 1864, the Union Pacific Railroad built a branch from Terre Haute to Greensburg; this led to the town's growth. In 1870, a store and hotel opened on Main Street; this became known as the "Greenough Hotel". The original church located on High Street served as both a worship center for Methodists and Presbyterians before being moved to its current location on Elm Street in 1924. The townspeople banded together to form their own school district which became operational in 1895; since then, Greensburg has had its own high school (now called Southside High School). The community also developed an extensive shopping mall which opened its doors in 1984. Today, Greensburg is a thriving community with several cultural attractions including two restaurants (Zel's Garden & Kitchen and Old Market), multiple shopping malls (including two downtown shopping centers), art galleries, theaters, and more.. The combination of its rich history and upbeat atmosphere has made it a popular destination for tourists from all over the United States as well as Canada and Mexico alike.
