In 1878, the first shot was fired in Greensburg, Indiana. The town's first gunsmith, John Fenton, created a .22 caliber pistol that used black powder and ball ammunition. In 1903, the first revolver in Greensburg was manufactured by David B. Henschel & Co.. That same year, the United States Rifle Association organized a meeting in Greensburg to discuss handgun regulations. On November 5th of that year, the ordinance regulating handguns was passed and became effective.

Greensburg is the largest community in Marshall County and one of the most populous towns in central Indiana. It is also one of the fastest-growing communities in Indiana. The first settler to locate in what is now Greensburg was Nicholas Henniker on July 8, 1814. He built a cabin on a hill near present day Green Street and Main Street. The town was named for him and his family. On December 12, 1824, George Washington Carver arrived in Indianapolis with his family to start a new life west of Lake Erie after serving as an inspector general for the Indian Territory government under President James Ketchum. Carver's wife Nancie had been born near Miami, Ohio, and he brought her with him to Indy as part of his resettlement effort westward into new territory acquired from Native American nations during the Indian Removal Act of 1830. They settled at what is now North High School Road and Main Street east of downtown Greensburg where they founded their farmstead known as "Carver's Grove." In 1850, when Centralia was founded by settlers from Decatur County Illinois (now Chicago), Greensburg became part of Marshall County because it lay within that county's limits when Centralia was organized as a city on February 14, 1851 by order of Mayor John Davenport following its incorporation as a village from parts of Harrison Township including North High School Road and Main Street which were then part ofMarshall County but are now within Green Township.. In 1860, when Marshall County changed its name to Hendricks County (in honor of General Robert Ewing), Greensburg became one Hundred thirty-seventh Township according to an act approved by Congress on March 1st., 1860; it comprised all or portions of twenty five cities/townships within Marshall County: Centralia (now Chicago),Decatur (now Chicago Heights), Evansville (present day Lafayette), Gary (present day Garysburg), Hammondsville (present day Hammondsville Heights), Huntington(presentday Huntington Heights) LaPorte(presentday LaPorte City) Marion(presentday Marion Hills) Noblesville( Present day Noblesville East) Putnam(PresentDay Putnam City) Richmond( presentday Richmond Hill). By Reorganization Act No 21 passed January 10th 1865 -being entitled An act relative thereto -the township comprising all or portionsof fifteen villages situated north latitude 20 degrees longitude were reorganized into seven separate townships consisting respectively Of: Andover(Now Aledo Park), Barronstown(Now Brookfield Village Center & Racine Parish Schools bounded northerly by State line then eastwesterly by Watertown village boundaries & southwest along Wabash River boundary until it meets said river at Hudson street & thence southeast along said river to its mouth at Lake Erie--Greenwich Twp.(Now Greenwood Village)--Seven additional townships viz: Delaware Valley(now Danbury Township)--Fourteen separate villages had been organized since 1863 when Union troops burned down much evidence about these settlements--New Albany--Neenah—Anderson-- Butler Springs-- Pittsford— Lebanon . Cannonballs were made out of lead, bronze, or other materials that would roll on the ground as they were fired. These balls were big enough to kill people and destroyed anything in their way. After Cannonballs became common in war, people started creating more powerful projectiles called Shotshells. Shotshells were created by stuffing several small pieces of metal together and firing them off at once into a target. This technique allowed for much larger warheads compared to previous methods such as Cannonballs and Arrows. During the 18th century, gunpowder became very popular due to its efficiency in projectile production combined with its ability to fire rapidly over great distances without any loss in accuracy or firepower (the precursor to machine guns). Gunpowder also gave birth to rockets which could be used for precision attacks on targets far away from human beings
