Greenfield is a small town located in Dearborn County, Indiana. The population was 1,693 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Dearborn County and the largest community in the county by population size. The first settlements in what is now Greenfield were made on the east side of what is now Center Street. A post office called Greenfield was established in 1868, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1911. In 1871, a group of men from nearby New Albany formed a company to purchase land for an agricultural village they named Greenfield Village. The village failed to take off and died within a few years. In 1893, a group of men from neighboring Bedford Township started developing land near present-day Greenfield on what is now North Washington Street. They named their development White Marsh after one of their founders had purchased white marsh property near Waterloo, Illinois). The development became known as White Marsh because it was only accessible by boat or wagon due to its high water levels during low tide times. At first, only farmers lived there; later it became home to businesses and residents who worked downtown during the day and took care of business at night or used the local schools during the day when available (later renamed South Dearborn). A post office called White Marsh was established in 1895, and continued operations until 1907. In 1908, Red Bank Township merged with Dearborn County; as a result, White Marsh Municipal Airport became part of Red Bank Township (although still under municipal jurisdiction). In 1912–13,due to growing demand for services inside and outside Red Bank Township – which wasn’t possible without expanding into other municipalities – Greenfield City formed along with two other townships: Caldwell West and Stanton East (both located west of Red Bank township). At that time, only male landowners could own land inside cities limits; females couldn't gain access until 1975 when zoning changes allowed for such developments (though some women did manage to start businesses before then). As soon as city boundaries were set up this way – which allowed for more commerce within city limits while preventing them from becoming too expansive – growth quickly picked up inside Greenfeldt Avenue/White Marsh Municipal Airport area as people began moving into newly Developed neighborhoods like North Washington Street/Bay View Drive etc.; eventually leading to today's dense population within these boundaries alone! Today's economy revolves around healthcare services (primarily hospital visitation) & large manufacturing companies that have moved out into larger markets acrossIndiana (& beyond) due our Great Lakes region’s historically favorable environment & highly skilled workforce

Greenfield is a small town in central Indiana, United States. The population was 5,811 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Kosciusko County. The name "Greenfield" comes from early English settlers who named their settlement after a meadow near Greencastle, Kentucky. The first permanent settler in Greenfield was Nicholas French in 1814 and he and his family built the first log cabin in what is now the downtown area of Greenfield. French also founded one of the earliest churches in Kosciusko County, Holy Trinity Parish Church which was dedicated on October 4, 1815. A post office called Greenfeld was established in 1827 and remained in operation until it closed on December 15, 1916. As the population grew and jobs became available outside of agriculture, many people left to find new opportunities elsewhere during the 19th century. One such opportunity appeared when a railroad station called East Manchester Station (later known as Kosciusko Junction) opened up across the street from Frenchman's Log Cabin on May 8, 1848. This train stop allowed for trade between eastcentral Indiana and far-off Tennessee without having to go through Cincinnati or Louisville which were then major cities on the rail network. In addition to this new industry –railroad travel –the Small Mill Race Course opened up just south of town on November 3rd,1852 Main Street became a transportation hub with travelers arriving by wagon road from all over central Indiana as well as beyond via riverboats crossing the Potomac River into Pennsylvania for goods sent downriver to Baltimore and other points northward. The first post office building located in Greenfield was erected at Fourth & Elm Streets on September 12th 1861 by John Cramer following construction of what would become Kosciusko County Courthouse later that year. During this time much progress was made within both communities with local schools being built (St Joseph's School opened its doors March 30th 1865 while Sacred Heart School only began operations two weeks later) while taverns flourished serving refreshments includingultz' Olde German Tavern which continued operating until 1905 when it burned down completely due to an overload of gas used by residents during prohibition era By 1870 there were over 100 businesses operating within one mile radius of downtown with more than 1 million pounds of freight passing through each day along what is today I-65; traffic had become so congested that several miles long piers had been constructed adjacent to Main Street where wagons could be unloaded directly onto barges waiting for transportation back upstream to load again onto trains heading out west bound for Chicago or other destinations southward like Indianapolis or even away fromIndiana altogether! In addition numerous brick buildings stood vacant throughout this period giving rise to what would come to be known as "The ghost town syndrome". Migration resumed during World War II when many thousands of patriotic Americans chose not onlyto serve their country but also found homes here in Central Indiana becauseossomportalwas open air 24/7 gasoline wasn't rationed like it was during World War II In 1948 Kosciusko County became one state when Hoosier Statehood Act passed by Congress gave all statesto equal representation regardlessof political affiliation
Greenfield was founded in 1827 by John Green and his brother James. The first post office at Greenfield was established in 1829. In 1848, the town became a county seat of Crawford County. In 1870, it became a part of Hendricks County.
