In 1886, when Greenfield's first school opened its doors for students aged 7–12 years old, it was one of only 12 schools in central Indiana open during that time period! Over time many other businesses cropped up around Newburgh (including a grocery store in 1893), including a bakery and several other retail stores before being acquired by J & L Matson followed by Sears Roebuck in 1957—making Greenfield one of most active business districts within city limits during that timeframe. Today there are still numerous businesses operating inside or adjacent to our town center which reflects both its historic popularity as well as its current day vibrancy! Many customers still refer to Browning Ammo as “ Military Grade” because this is what their product is supposed to be!
