Greencastle, Indiana is a city in Porter County, Indiana, United States. The population was 7,832 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Porter County. Greencastle is also known for its shopping district called "The Commons". The city was founded in 1827 by General John Potter and his family as the village of Greencastle on the east bank of the West Fork of White River. The name stuck and the city grew rapidly from 5,000 residents in 1830 to 25,000 by 1840. In 1848, Greencastle became an independent municipality with a mayor and a town hall. In 1869, when Indianapolis amalgamated with Porter County, Greencastle became District No. 2 in Indianapolis and remained so until 1889 when it became District No. 1 again under Indianapolis Mayor John Carmody's leadership. The first female public official in Indiana was elected as Mayor of Greencastle on November 8th1920 – Alice Hahn-Logan (incumbent since 1923). Greencastle experienced great economic growth during World War II due to wartime production by Boeing Airplane Company and other companies located there such as Ford Motor Company which established satellite plants here including Assembly Plant 442 which built the world's first four-engine jet airplane -the B-29 Superfortress -and Assembly Plant 458 which produced P-40 Warhawk fighter planes for American air power during World War II. However after 1945 most manufacturing stopped because OFI closed down many factories abroad following America's entry into World War II; this had a significant impact on job loss throughout Indiana while Greens Castle continued to experience rapid growth albeit without corresponding job creation opportunities outside of its original businesses/occupations like retail sales or manufacturing; this has been changing more recently however with post-war technology giving rise to many new opportunities for jobs within sectors such as health care (Covidien), information technology (IBM) and appliance design (DELCO). A number of larger companies have relocated back into Indy over time but smaller companies continue to flee away due to competition from larger employers outside Indy or lack of available space e.[1]

By 1875, there had been enough progress made with pistols and shotguns that it was decided that an new type of airgun would be developed – an automatic pistol! Automatic pistols use compressed air (instead of Firearms propellant gas) tofire rounds, allowing them to be more accurate than handguns alone. They became popular in World War II because they could be fired by soldiers on the battlefield without having to take down their riflesman with shots from close range

Greencastle is a small town in the U.S. state of Indiana. The population was 1,559 at the 2010 census. It is located in Daviess County and is part of the Indianapolis Metropolitan Area. Greencastle was founded in 1824 by George Washington Stephenson and his family as a trading post on the White River. In 1828, Stephenson donated land to create Greencastle Village and established the first school here. The village grew rapidly, but development stalled after World War II when much of Daviess County was developed for agriculture rather than trade or industry. By the early 1990s, however, growth had resumed and Greencastle has since become one of Indiana's most popular tourist destinations with its beautiful architecture and historical significance. The town was officially renamed Greencastle in honor of General David Ladd who served as governor from 1953 to 1957 and helped spur economic development in Daviess County during that time period; he also left an important legacy by establishing the Daviess County Heritage Museum which features artifacts from local history dating back to 1795. Today, many residents continue to maintain their strong ties to their hometown while also enjoying modern amenities such as shopping malls, restaurants, entertainment venues and hotels within walking distance of their homes; these developments have helped keep Greencastle vibrant despite challenges posed by global competition such as online retailing and highway construction projects that have impact on nearby towns such as Noblesville and Gary.
