Goshen, Indiana is a small town located in central Indiana. The population was 7,291 as of the 2010 census. It lies on the eastern edge of the county seat of West Posey and is bordered to the north by Union Township and to the east by Goshen Township. Interstate 5 skirts the town to its south, while state Routes 4 and 421 run through it to the west. The first settlers in Goshen were actually from Massachusetts. They came overland during wintertime in 1814 and established a trading post near what is now Goshen Lake. In 1816, General David Dixon founded what is now known as Dixon's Mills (now part of West Posey) within Goshen township. Today, Dixon's Mills remains a part of Goshen Township although it has since been demolished. Other early residents of Goshene included John Kapp and his brother Nicholas Kapp who settled there in 1825; Gideon Nourse who built a gristmill on Black Creek in 1830; Amos Fenton who platted land around present-day Mount Carmel Cemetery in 1830; Benjamin Allis who organized a grain market at present-day Uniontown in 1834; Moses McGrew who erected a flour mill on White Creek in 1840; James Haysenauer who built an academy here in 1847; George Waddell whose family moved into this community from Decaturville, Illinois about 1850-1851 ; Michael Denny whose father founded Denny’s Drug Store hereabouts in 1865 . At one time or another, every village or town within these boundaries had its own schoolhouse (or “pupil house”). This system was abolished by statute between 1870 and 1880 when all schools became public schools municipalized under one roof with common funding throughout the county at that time. However, private elementary/middle schools continued to be operated until after World War II when they too were municipalized under one roof with individual funding upon reestablishment of local government following that war period Today, Goshene features several small businesses which support its busy Main Street corridor including CVS Pharmacy & Markets (), Pizza Hut (), Dairy Queen (), Subway (), Barnes & Noble () as well as numerous restaurants including McDonald's (), Wendy’s ()) , Bob Evans(), Ch depreciation (). Additionally, many locally owned antique stores dot Main Street along with several art galleries ().farmers markets are also popular attractions throughout the year (). Consequently, despite having only 791 inhabitants according to 2010 Census data (.8% population density), Goshene does an excellent job supporting its vibrant nightlife scene which includes several bars/clubs () as well as numerous restaurants/cafés ().

Goshen, Indiana is a town in Butler County, Indiana, United States. The population was 2,898 at the 2010 census. Goshen is part of the Indianapolis metropolitan area. The first permanent settler in Goshen was Elisha Stevens who arrived on July 1, 1812. He and his family were the first white people to live in what is now Butler County. Other early settlers included Isaac Beattie (1814-1827), James Fenton (1828-1917), John Auld (1829-1900), Solomon Goodyear (1831-1909), Daniel Dennison (1833-1920), and George Stephenson (c 1784-1865). The first businesses in Goshen were a blacksmith shop and a mill which both operated until around 1840 when they were replaced by a store and post office. The first school was built in 1841 with classes starting September 9th that year. In 1847/48 there was also a Methodist church constructed which still stands today as one of the most intact examples of frontier architecture in Butler County. Bible study became an important tradition for many residents during this time as it provided religious instruction for children living below poverty lines or without parents who could provide them with books and other educational opportunities outside of home. A large part of this education system took place at home so that parents had control over their children’s learning experience while still being able to supervise their work schedules and maintain communication with their families back east.. A few years after the school opened, another building was erected on land donated by local resident John Witherspoon which housed the new courthouse from 1852 to 1860 when it burned down due to an arsonist attack. After that point, court proceedings occurred out of town until 1870 when finally Goshen became its own legal county seat under county ordinance #3 dated November 8th of that year. Thereafter business flourished as people here began purchasing property all around town giving rise to some very large homes such as Driscoll’s Mansion dating back to this time period where residents could enjoy continued qualityof life even into later decades despite having little say over government policy or how development happened within their community.. Migration started happening during this time too with Germans moving into the area beginning in earnest around 1880 while Irish immigrants followed soon afterwards making Goshen one of the most heavilyIrish populated towns in America up until well into the 20th century.During World War I there was significant growth due to military production occurring here including munitions plants operated by General Electric Company Ltd., United Aircraft Corporation, Ford Motor Company etcetera but again much like other parts of America these industries closed down shortly thereafter leading to closures throughout much southern Indiana following World War II save for two small textile mills established near Fort Wayne which continued operation through 1970 however both have since been closed completely.. Despite all these challenges though, Goshen has remained relatively unchanged overall over time sporting several vibrant art galleries popular nightclubs/bars along with occasional major events such as music festivals or rodeo weekends – something truly unique about this small town located within easy commuting distance from many major cities across America!
