Goshen, Indiana is home to the world's second-oldest high school shooting gym, which opened in 1911. The shooting gym has been used for various events such as the Goshen Open Air Shotgun Show and the Goshen Community Fair. It also served as the indoor training range for the Butler County Sheriff's Department from 1978 to 1984. In 1974, a new shooting range was built adjacent to the old one and it has been used by both the Goshen Police Department and Butler County Sheriff's Department ever since. In 1911, an addition to the school complex was constructed which housed a Shooting Gallery with a capacity of 50 students or more. This allowed children who were not admitted into other schools in town to attend high school without losing out on their education opportunities. Unfortunately, due to its age, this building eventually disappeared and was never replaced; instead it became storage space for new buildings on campus. In 1973, when then-Mayor Ray Gesswein decided that an outdoor gun range could be established within city limits, he approached former Superintendent of Schools John Fenton about donating land near East High School so that construction could begin immediately upon donation by Gesswein himself! The new range – now called "The Gun Room" – opened its doors on November 26th of that year and quickly became popular with people from all over Goshen! It remained open until 2003 due to concerns about vandalism (most notably during prohibition days when alcohol was freely available) but currently houses several pieces of antique firearms inside along with some exhibits on related history surrounding guns throughout American history!
