The community was founded in 1824 by John D. Goshen and his family as a farmstead on the banks of the White River. Goshen was originally named for John Denton Goshen, an early settler in what is now Kosciusko County. On July 4, 1825, John Denton Goshen Jr., father of John Denton Goshen Sr., founded what would become Goshen with six others on land he had purchased northwest of present-day Indianapolis from fur trader Pierre Dorion de Lacrosse. The original home of the Goshens still stands today within the boundaries of their current home village: a two-story frame cottage known as "The Old Home". John Denton Goshen Jr.'s grandson, James Posey Goschen (1847-1921), also a pioneer in Kosciusko County and one of its most successful farmers and businessmen, donated land to build what became known as "The Park"--a large open space located near downtown Gossen where people could picnic and play football or baseball during summertime. This park remains one of Gossen's main attractions to this day and has been used for such events as concerts and dances since it first opened in 1922. In 1924 James Posey Goschen donated another piece of property adjacent to "The Park" which housed his own large 2-story brick house--the first private home in Gossen Township. This house still stands today within the borders of their current home village: a two-story frame cottage known as "The Old Home". Today there are several other contributing structures located throughout Gossen Township which serve as important parts of its history include: A three-quarter mile long (1 1/2 km) frontage road called State Road 507 runs through much of Gossen township; it served primarily as transportation between villages until 1965 when it was widened into interstates 75th & 77th Street; A well known local historical landmark called Foster's House which stood on Foster's Mill Pond until 1984 when it was destroyed by fire; A small number (approximately 10%)of buildings in Gossen Township were built using Methodism techniques along with Gothic Revival styling popularized by Bishop Stephen Elam at nearby Stony Pointe Methodist Church beginning around 1840 before moving on to similar churches throughout southern Indiana; An old mill situated east side median between SR 507 & US 20 just south off I-465 serves primarily local purposes including grinding cornmeal for breadmaking but also provides access to water that feeds both Village Hall & many dwellings across town; Today there are over 350 residents living totaling approximately 950 families residing within walking distance or less than half a mile (.3 km) away from all public services available including churches, schools, general stores, grocery stores etc.;

The community was founded in 1837 by Solomon Goshen and his family after they abandoned their previous location in Cadet Township on the west side of Kosciusko County. Goshen became a leading grain producer in central Indiana and was also an early pioneer fur trader. The Goshen Canal connected Goshen to Warsaw in 1847 and construction began on what would become one of the largest canal systems ever built in America. The village flourished until World War II when it was destroyed by Allied bombing raids conducted during World War II as part of Operation Overlord. In 1951, Goshen voters approved a referendum to change its name to "Goshene" after nearby Goshene Lake which served as a reservoir for local water supplies during wartime operations and also housed RAF Bomber Command's Große Koerse airfield used for training German pilots during World War II.} In 1969, another referendum approved changing the name back to "Goshene". Today, Goshene has regained its former prosperity as one of centralIndiana's most vibrant communities with many businesses providing services such as retail sales and real estate.}
