Goshen, Indiana is home to a rich history of gun targets. The first target shooting preserve in the area was established in 1881 by H. G. Hecker and his son, J. W. Hecker. From that time until 1959, Goshen hosted an annual Gun Target Tournament which attracted top shooters from across the Midwest. Today, the Goshen Gun Target Tournament is one of the most important events in the region for Shooters of all levels!

Goshen is one of the oldest villages in Indiana and has been inhabited by people for over three centuries. The first European to visit Goshen was Dutchman Hendrick Fairfield in 1660, and a post office was established in 1753. A sawmill and grist mill were built in the village during the 1800s. The village was officially incorporated as a town on June 12, 1871. In 1907, Goshen became an exclave of Terre Haute, Indiana.
Goshen, Indiana is a town in and the county seat of Goshen County, Indiana. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Indianapolis-Muncie-Elkland Micropolitan Statistical Area. Goshen was founded in 1811 as a small log village on the east bank of the White River. In 1814, it became an incorporated town. The first white settler in Goshen was John Crampton in 1811. He purchased land from the Miami Nation and built a cabin on what is now Main Street. The first post office was established in 1814, and named for Captain John Crampton, who had come to Goshen to purchase land from them. In 1830, James Weldon opened a ferry across the White River near present day downtown Goshen and began shipping goods between Goshen and Elkhart County. This early transportation system allowed trade between these areas without having to go through Fort Wayne or other larger settlements. By 1840, there were more than fifty businesses in Goshen with over $10 million worth of sales that year alone! During this time period also saw significant growth for local farming industries with corn becoming America's favorite export crop during this time period as well as many new farmsteads being erected throughout rural Goshon Township such as Post Road Farmstead #1 (now known as Old Post Road), Wabash Valley Farms #2 (now known as Southside Drive), North Side Agriculture #3 (now known as Westside Drive), East Side Agricultural #4 (now known as Northside Drive) along with several others over time including: Coal Creek Ford#5 (now known as US 41), Goodloe's Ford#6 (also now known as US 41 & Old Goodloe’s Rd.), Ewing’s Mills Ford#7(later renamed Pritchett’s Mill), Ice Cream Factory #8(later renamed Dairy Queen/Dairy Queen Park) & finally Bogartstown Hall which served both community functions such as schoolhouse & library before being demolished circa 1980 primarily due to lack of funding however some remnants still remain today including parts of building which housed large gambrel roofed barn which once seated 100 people while also housing two large chimneys providing heat during winter! It should be noted that while various businesses took form throughout these years many eventually went out of business or were sold off by their original owners either because they no longer met muster or changed hands multiple times; thus leaving little physical evidence located within this township dating back to its earliest days! In 1857 when Vandalia Parish was formed within Goshon Township it included all present day Kosciusko County except for portions of Elkhart County west of I-65; however, Kosciusko County residents continued to vote via absentee ballots until 1870 when voting ended statewide due to changes brought about by American Civil War considerations resulting in Illinois joining Missouri side by side with Kentucky therefore Kosciusko County residents lost their right to vote fully within their own Townships! As a result efforts were made by local officials at least through 1870 onwards towards resuming government function within their respectiveTownship although not completely successful due To continued difficulties finding individuals willing/ableTo take on such responsibility John Fenton became fulltime sheriff following his election on December 3rd 1860 after serving interim sheriff since January 20th 1860 .Fenton held office until his death on March 20th 1865 .He married into Elizabeth Aldrich who later divorced him after four years marriage he had two children together one born dead but his body never found despite numerous searches.. George Hickenlooper Sr., prominent businessman & Mayor Of Elkhartport died suddenly October 17th 1935 at age 87 leaving behind 2 daughters -Stuart Hickenlooper wife Stacey Hemphill daughter Terry Hemphill Daughter Mary Alice Bunker
