The community was founded in 1824 by General Simon Kenton and his wife Deborah as a Methodist Episcopal church settlement. Goshen's first post office opened in 1827. In 1881, Goshen became an incorporated village under the name of Goshen Heights. The current name of Goshen comes from nearby Genesee County and means "place where water flows abundantly." The economy of Goshen is based largely on agriculture with some light manufacturing and services such as transportation services. Many businesses are located along US-6 which connects the community to Indianapolis and other major metropolitan areas. There are also several smaller parks and playgrounds within the town limits providing opportunities for children to enjoy nature while developing basic skills such as swimming, biking, hand-eye coordination, arithmetic, algebraic problem solving and more. There are also several churches located in or near Goshen including First Methodist Church (founded in 1830), United Methodists (founded in 1840), Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (established 1865), Presbyterian Church (1890) and Baptist Churches (1910).

Goshen is an unincorporated community in Kosciusko County,Indiana. It was laid out in 1827 by Captain John Stephenson and named for George Washington Goshen, a member of the Indiana General Assembly. The community had a post office from 1827 to 1841. Goshen was settled by white farmers who began arriving in the area in the early 1800s. By 1830, there were about sixty households living in Goshen. By 1840, there were over one hundred residents living in Goshen. The first school in Goshen was opened on February 12,1828 by Reverend Elijah Ladd and taught Kindergarten through Twelve Grade Level until it burned down on October 24th,1844. In 1851, the first store opened and operated until 1861 when it closed due to financial problems. During the 1850s and 1860s, Goshen experienced significant growth as immigration increased and manufacturing interests developed here. Key products manufactured here during this time include flour (which became famous due to its quality control), cigars, boots, saddles and other leather goods The decline of this industry during the late 19th century led to a decrease in population associated with it within Gosheneville Township However population growth resumed after World War II as new industries began developing around town such as papermaking and plastics production In recent years there has been significant redevelopment taking place around town which has resulted in more people moving into the area . Gospel music services have also become popular among locals which has helped increase attendance at local churches
Goshen, Indiana was founded in 1814 as a small village on the banks of the White River. The Village of Goshen grew rapidly and by 1835 it had a population of over 100 people. In 1839, Goshen became an incorporated town and soon developed into one of the most significant towns in southeastern Indiana. Goshen's growth was largely due to its partnership with Terre Haute,Indiana as both towns developed businesses together and built up infrastructure. By 1870, Goshen had a population of over 2,000 people and had become an important center for trade and commerce in eastern Indiana. In 1973, Goshen was renamed to honor General George Custer
