Goshen is a town located in Hendricks County, Indiana, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. Goshen is part of the Lafayette, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1868, a group of settlers from rural Adams County met to discuss ways to improve their economy and protect themselves from Indian raids. They decided that they would need firearms to defend themselves and formed the first gun club in Goshen. The club purchased three shotguns each and began practicing with them outside the town limits. In 1875, the state legislature passed an act providing for concealed carry of firearms by law-abiding citizens within the state boundaries. This legislation allowed Goshen residents to protect themselves from Indians while still remaining within the bounds of state law. The townspeople soon organized themselves into a Rifle Club whichthey called "The Gunmen" because they were limited to owning only handguns at this time. In 1902, Goshen incorporation was granted by the State Government and thus became an incorporated village under its own jurisdiction with its own police force and fire department

Goshen, Indiana is located in the eastern United States and is bordered by Michigan to the north and east, Indiana to the south, and Ohio to the west. The population of Goshen was estimated at 24,000 residents in 2000. The town was founded in 1824 by David Goshen and his wife Sarah. It was named for a hill near Goshen in Pennsylvania. In 1827, Goshen became a post office and began to grow as a farming community. By 1830, the town had a school, Methodist church, sawmill, hotel and some other buildings. In 1833-34, Goshen experienced an epidemic that killed many people and destroyed most of what remained of their businesses. However, due to local support from local farmers and citizens alike, Goshen recovered quickly and continued growing until it reached its current size in 1840. In 1848-49 when violence flared between groups of settlers over land titles issue within the newly organized state of Indiana Territory (now Illinois), Goshene residents aided Native Americans in helping suppress Indian attacks on settlers living near their town. This period also marked significant growth for both Goshene residents and businesses as trade expanded with new markets opening up throughout central Indiana due to these hostilities between Anglo-Indian communities across the Great Lakes region (eastern Illinois/Indiana/Wabash River area). Additionally; this time period also saw increased immigration from European countries including Germany (1848), Austria (1850), Italy (1851), Hungary (1852) among others who were seeking opportunity in what was then an new frontierland full of hostile Indians awaiting them! The outbreak of World War I postponed any further expansion into central or eastern Illinois until after war’s end which allowed for more business development as goods available at lower prices replaced those lost during wartime production shortages; however it did not stop the decline seen thereafter as jobs dried up while wages stagnated or fell even further behind inflation rates making daily life increasingly difficult for average citizens struggling against great odds just trying survive day-to-day without much hope left either financially or socially speaking let alone achieving anything resembling stability or success beyond barely scraping by each week-. This didn’t help matters when state government completely stopped providing services such as education or healthcare leading to widespread social unrest known colloquially now simply as “the gelato era” characterized by skyrocketing crime rates combined with plummeting standards of living with everyday essentials becoming ever more rarer still leading some people going so far as to start referring to today’s society actually being better off than prewar days! For all intents purposes; during this time period things resembled something out of prohibition era America where criminal gangs ruled everything while working class citizens struggled endlessly just trying make ends meet day-in And day-out no matter how bad things got! Suffice it say; without fail during this tumultuous era there were always those who would do whatever they could think or feel necessary to get back on track within whatever framework they could find using criminality or political corruption oftenBenefitting themselves directly or indirectly at everyone else’s expense! This amorphous blob known otherwise commonly simply as “the decade below Prohibition” – 1915-1925 – offers one comprehensive snapshot encapsulating nearly every facet associated with virtually every problem detailed herein save one: absolute poverty persisted despite ample opportunities offered whereas per capita income soared thanks primarily theretofore unceasing waves of economic migration swelling populations everywhere hitherto unheard Of since well before nationhood itself arrived!! Consequently we ask: What caused Prohibition? Why did it persist through seemingly endless rounds OF reformulations? And why has it been such an enduring scourge on American society? Unfortunately scholars currently lack unanimity regarding any definitive answer notwithstanding entire field having moved rapidly past pointyeared consensus barely five decades ago already?! So inverting our question & returning whence we started becomes tricky but not impossible if only because stories like HBO's "The Sopranos" have done more than anyone else TO popularize & amplifier awareness about issues surrounding prohibition thus prompting entire reexamination (& maybe even abolition?) - though admittedly less dramatic given series' longer runtime!] !!!

It has been since 1827 the home of two churches: First Presbyterian and then Methodist. The original settler from North Carolina, John Leland, arrived in 1796 and built a log cabin on the banks of the White River.
