On July 4, 1814, General James K. Polk arrived at Goshen on his way to join Ulysses S. Grant at Vincennes on Lake Michigan; he spent two days here before continuing his journey south. In 1815 American Revolutionary War veteran Colonel John Tipton established a log house and store here while his family fought with British forces during the Northwest Indian Wars (1776-1815). When Tipton died in 1816, his widow sold land near present day Interstate 70 to local farmers for $1 per acre ($26 cash). By 1800 about 100 people lived hereabouts; most were farmers or artisans engaged in trade or industryrare landowning families such as that of George Waring Sr., father of current US Congressman George Waring II (R) and Adolphus Busch III (D). In 1825 – when Goshen was known as "Hendricksville" – lawyer Daniel Webster moved from nearby Greenwood to open what would become one of America's largest law firms: Webster and Crandall LLP followed by other notable attorneys over the next half century including future Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis and Congressman Anthony Weiner (D-NY). In addition to its legal activity, Goshen also hosted an annual summertime fair called "The Great Indian Faire". During World War II many soldiers barracks were built adjacent to Main Street which housed some 1,200 soldiers barracks between 1942-1945 including those used by the Indiana Army National Guard's 85th Infantry Division Headquarters Camp #2 & 3 located just east of Main Street on now Fourth Street NE & Stony Creek Road NW Childress Barracks #3A & B are still extant today as are portions of buildings that housed company stores/cafeterias/etc.; these have been restored and contain interpretive displays about wartime life in Gosheneigtown during World War II As post-war growth beganresidential development increased rapidly with subdivisions being developed along I-70 which ledto name change from Hendricksville to GosheneigeTownship on October 15th 1959 when Township Supervisor Jerald Aitken became Township Manager after serving five years as Deputy Manager for Community Development under then Township Superintendent Clyde Ladd On November 2nd 1978 fire destroyed much property within Borough limits resultingin lossofjobs& TaxpayersFunds(& closureofschools)

In 1851, the Goshens acquired two other farms within walking distance of their home for additional farming purposes. These properties became known as Farm #1 and Farm #2. From these new farms, the Goshens grew corn and soybeans for local consumption andexport market demand until 1966 when they sold all their crops to grain elevator operator United States Elevator Co.. Today, descendants of Nicholas and Anna (his wife) Goshen live on both Farms #1 and #2 which are still used for farming purposes today! Another important part of village history occurred during World War II when many residents enlisted or volunteered for military service in various ways including Wartime Housing Units (WHU). In 1942-1943, Mr./Mrs.(last name unknown), father Arno(?), mother Elisabeth(?), sisters/brothers Charles(?) & Harry went door to door collecting food items needed by troops stationed at Camp Ziegler outside Indianapolis during World War II Veterans Day parade that day! Mrs./ Father collected gasoline cans (pink paper with white lettering "GOShene" written inside) which soldiers could use to heat barracks before bedtime! They also collected kinder articles such as soap dishes & toothbrushes given away free by military authorities! After war ended they returned home but lives continued to be lived out through services rendered thru friends & family
Goshen is located in the Ohio River Valley and was founded by the Goshen Pioneers on December 12, 1814. The town was named for Christopher Goshen, a settler who arrived in 1811. Goshen served as a location for many battles during the American Civil War. On November 15, 1865, General Ulysses S. Grant's army came through Goshen on their way to Overland Park in Kansas.
