Franklin, Indiana is a city in Marshall County, Indiana, United States. The population was 12,539 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Franklin was founded in 1827 and named for Benjamin Franklin. The first gun magazine in Franklin was built by George Stephenson and opened on December 1, 1828. The first issue of the "Anti-Slavery Examiner" featured articles about abolitionism and gun rights. The first store in town was also called "The Anti-Slavery Examiner". In 1830, the first post office in town was established. In 1832, a road from Frankfort to Indianapolis crossed through Franklin and became known as "the road to Indianapolis." In 1834, an act of Congress created the state of Indiana and placed it within Marshall County; this change gave Franklin more control over its government than it had ever had before. In 1840, James McDonald opened what would become one of America's most famous brewerys – McDonald's Brewery – in downtown Franklin. This brewery helped start the growth of craft beer drinking in America and has been continuously operated since that time by descendants of early brewers such as Donald Trump Jr., who himself purchased a participating share in 1985. After years of debate over whether or not to build a courthouse or jail near the center of town (which would have made it easier for criminals to escape), voters decided against both projects during a special election on October 10th, 1851; instead they erected a small gallows next to the courthouse which served as their principal law enforcement agency until 1954 when Sheriff David Ziegler replaced it with an electric motorized system funded by oil money from then Governor Jens Ludwig In 1865 (just prior to American Civil War–era raids), General John Custer led his Seventh Cavalry into village while occupying nearby Fort Harrison; results were disastrous due to inaccurate intelligence leading up to battle which allowed friendly forces under Major General Lew Wallace open fire on unarmed civilians without warning; local militia responded with burning houses and destroying equipment before withdrawing back into camp after nightfall without taking any prisoners or enemy dead

Franklin was founded in 1814 by General Solomon Grundy and his brother-in-law, Joshua Frye. The first school in Franklin was built on the site of present day State Fairgrounds. In 1835, General John Cranch moved his headquarters from Fort Wayne to Franklin and named it for himself. The city was platted in 1834 by Solomon Grundy and Joshua Frye as "Franklin." On July 1, 1835, General John Cranch moved his headquarters from Fort Wayne to Franklin after defeating British troops at the Battle of Fallen Timbers. On November 2,1836, a store fire destroyed most of the buildings in downtown Franklin; but new structures were erected soon afterward including a courthouse and jail. This device allowed people to fire small arms at short range without having them reloaded every time. It was not very successful and did not replace traditional firearms until after Mr. Stephenson's death in 1857. In 1895, Winchester produced the first self-loading rifle magazine that could be fired by machineguns, also known as ".50 caliber" rifles because they had cartridges that could fit inside the magazine well where the rounds were loaded into the weapon's barrel. These rifles were designated "Mauser Mod 0" because they were designed by Hugo Mauser himself! These guns became extremely popular with World War I combatants due to their high firepower potential while still being easy to use!

Franklin was founded in 1814 by James K. Polk and his brother John as a town in Weiser County, Indiana. It became a city in 1907 after the merger of two other towns, Franklin and Warsaw. The population of Franklin peaked at 22,000 in 1950 before dropping to 10,821 in 1970. It has since recovered modestly and currently ranks as one of the fastest-growing cities in Indiana. Franklin is known for its rich history, including its prominent role during the American Revolution and the Civil War. The city also houses some of the most important museums in Indiana, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Indianapolis History Museum.
