In 1897, the Frankfort gun store was founded by A. W. Ladd and his brother-in-law, John C. Floyd. At that time, Frankfort was a small town of about 10,000 people located on the banks of the Ohio River in central Indiana. The store had two locations: one on Washington Street and one on Main Street. The Ladd brothers soon became successful in selling guns to local farmers and hunters who used their weapons to protect themselves from Indian raiders or other predators. In addition to firearms, the Ladd brothers also sold ammunition and related items such as rifles and shotguns. The business grew rapidly over the years and by 1910 it had moved to its present location on State Avenue in downtown Frankfort. At that time, the store employed around 25 employees including clerks, salesmen, mechanics, etc., while there were also several storage sheds nearby for storing firearms when not being used or stored at the shop itself. Today, the Frankfort gun store is still an important part of town life with a large selection of handguns available for purchase as well as ammo and hunting supplies. Frankfort is a town inAllen County, Indiana, United States. The population was 5,907 at the 2010 census. Frankfort is located on the east side of the bypass of I-465 and Interstate 76. The first European settlers in what would become Frankfort were French Canadians who moved from Montreal in 1795. They founded the village of LaFayette (now part of Fort Wayne) on a hill near current day Vermont Street and Ohio Avenue. In 1814, General Andrew Jackson discovered gold in what would become Franklin Township and named it for his birthplace, Philadelphia. The men who prospected for gold brought their families with them to Franklin Township, including John Sexton Sr., father of John Sexton Jr., who became known as "the Father of Franklin Township." In 1839, the original Townsite Plan was approved by the Indiana General Assembly; it laid out land that includes present-day Frankfort and parts of Allen County. On December 3rd following this approval, Isaac Hill opened the first store in what is now downtown Frankfort; he stored goods under a covered wagon on State Capitol Square until 1845 when he erected a two story brick building which still stands today called "The Hill Store". At that time, most sales took place at home or local farmers' markets where people bought produce fresh from the farmsteads around them. On May 25th 1840 while visiting nearby Stroudsburg on business errands William Minton purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) south of present day Coshocton Road from David Ralston for $4 per acre ($/km). This purchase created much competition among early settlers for land within walking distance to town center as well as outside sources for water supply and grazing areas for livestock. The first courthouse was built in 1841 adjacent to Second Baptist Church which served as court house until 1888 when it burned downqv In 1842–43 Ebenezer Beardsley surveyed about 12 miles (19 km) southeast of town limits between White River Valley Railroad tracks and county lineqv . He proposed forming an independent township but no action was taken until 1861 when Beardsley submitted another survey proposing annexing existing Putnam Township to formFrankfort townshipv We filled out his survey but did not act upon it because there were some concerns over consolidating too many towns into one area v In 1865 Abraham Lincoln issued an executive order creating New Mexico Territoryqv There were few settlements established within New Mexico Territory so we never annexed any towns into our township
