On November 15, 1814, Polk issued a proclamation establishing Querétaro asMexico's new national capital; Fort Wayne followed suit two days later on November 16th due to popular demand from American settlers living nearby at The Forks on Muckleshoot Creek which had been annexed by Fort Wayne just before Polk's proclamation went into effect In 1817, General Anthony Wayne led an army against Native Americans known asthe Shawnee up throughpresent-day Jo Daviess County in central Indiana in what is now western Kentucky; he reached present-day Frankfort about December 15th while encamped at Knoxville Barracks west of present day Lafayette Square some 10 miles southwest of modern day downtownFrankfort along Canfield Creek where he constructed his headquarters The first permanent European settler in what is now Franklin County was Nicholas Jorgensen who arrived with his family from Norway sometime between 1800 and 1800/1 . He built a log cabin nearpresent day Lebanon Road and lived there until around 1800 when he moved downriver along present day Whitewater River towards Ft Recovery . By October 1800 Jorgensen had started building some more permanent structures including a mill which he named "Frimmelsvåg" (Frosty Bay), meaning "frozen bay". He also erected several other small buildings including one known today as State House Annexe #2 which still stands above Holmdel Avenue northeast corner Second Street just eastof Interstate 466 Interstate Highway) He died suddenly within weeks or months after arriving hereabouts early July 1800 aged 53 years old according to one source however another source claims Nicholas Jorgensen may have died young because his daughter married John Shields prior to his death Nicholas Jorgensen’s youngest son Andreas started building homes closer to where we live today shortly thereafter continuing father’s tradition however Andreas removed all traceable evidence remaining behind did not follow traditional Norwegian builder methods leaving many questions unanswered such as why noname remained associated with house even though home site remains Today
