The Fort Wayne Arsenal was founded in 1826 as the first armory on the Indiana side of the Ohio River. The arsenal served as a factory for manufacturing cannons and rifles, and later became known for its pistols. Today, the arsenal is home to numerous museums and galleries, including the Museum of American History, which displays over 6,000 items related to gun history. One of the most important handguns produced at Fort Wayne was the Colt Model 1886 revolver. This pistol was designed by John Browning and offered in both single-action (SA) and double-action (DAC) models. The SA model featured a 5” barrel with a round butt grip that allowed it to be held close to the body. The DAC model had a 3" barrel with a more recessed grip that allowed it to be held further away from the body. Both guns were made in black or brown walnut cases with white feather or gold leaf illustrations on either side of the trigger guard. In 1892, Colt introduced its new .45 ACP cartridge into production for use in revolvers like the Model 1886. This cartridge featured an upgraded case design that increased ballistics and helped make this handgun one of America’s most popular weapons during World War I. In 1923, Colt introduced its new 8mm Luger cartridge into production for use in handguns such as Smith & Wesson's Single Action Army (SA). Thanks to this cartridge's high velocity and low recoil, these pistols became some of America's favorite firearms during World War II.

Fort Wayne is a city in Indiana, United States. The population was 11,815 at the 2010 census. It is the fourth most populous city in Indiana and the seventh most populous city in Michigan. The area now known as Fort Wayne was first settled by Native Americans before becoming part of the Northwest Territory of Michigan in 1803. The first European to visit what is now Fort Wayne was French trader Jean Baptiste Chouteau on October 24, 1795. In 1814, General Anthony Porter set up a post here named for Commodore John Stoughton because he thought it would be a strong military base against British forces besieging Detroit. On December 10, 1814, Fort Wayne became an independent republic under the name of Republic of Fort Wayne and its first president was Daniel Boone (1796-1866). The city's growth began during the 1830s with arrival of many American settlers who were lured by its cheap land prices and large natural resources such as coal and oil. By 1840, Fort Wayne had established itself as a major center for commerce and trade with settlements around it. It grew rapidly into a town with over 20 residential buildings and businesses by 1850. In 1860, fortieth anniversary year of its incorporation as an independent republic saw rapid growth with 3 new blocks being added to the downtown area only 2 years later! Today’s skyline includes some of America’s tallest office towers including One Washington Square/Fort Wayne Place Tower which reaches 1,500 feet (500 meters) tall; Bankers Life Fieldhouse – built in 1926 and home to both the NBA’s Indiana Pacers (from 1989-2013) and MLB’s Cleveland Indians from 1995-2015; Ford Motor Company Assembly Plant – one of largest plants within Midwest United States – producing cars since 1908; The Ball State University campus extends into central Fort Wayneam across I-465 from downtown; along “the riverfront corridor” running between eastern neighborhoods on one side then southern neighborhoods on another side is Wells Fargo Arena where Major League Soccer's Columbus Crew play their home games since 2009

The fort became one ofIndiana's early military posts; it repelled an attack by French forces in 1816 and 1817. In 1827, after Dunlap's death, Wayne sold the fort to Colonel John Pappanah for $10,000 ($ today). Pappanah named it Pappanah's Post at Fort Wayne because he believed that Native Americans living along the Muncie River were friendly to him and would protect his goods if he built a post there. The first permanent white settlers arrived at Pappanah's post in 1830; they were led by Captain George Stephenson. On July 6th 1835, while under construction at what is now known as Stephenson Tower on northbound I-465 near State Road 465 (now US 24), American soldiers killed eight people working on the tower during an attack by Indians led by Major John Graves Simcoe when they mistook them for British troops nearby John Graves Simcoe was later hanged for this atrocity which remains one of history’s most notorious atrocities against civilians
Fort Wayne was founded in 1795 by General Anthony Wayne and the British Army. It became a United States military post in 1814. In 1816, Fort Wayne became a capital of Indiana. The city was renamed Indianapolis on November 3, 1902.
