Fishers is a small town in Indiana, United States. The population was 2,868 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Kosciusko County, Indiana Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fishers was founded on a small lake by George Fisher in 1824. In 1880, the town had a population of 1,600 and it grew to 4,000 by 1910. The town became known for its fishing industry and also for its manufacturing of farm machinery and other products. The townsite that now occupies most of Fishers was first settled by George Fisher in 1824 when he built a cabin on what is now called State Road 9 south of the local community today known as Fishers. He named his new settlement after his friend and neighbor John Marshall who had come to visit him from Kentucky that year. By 1830, entire communities were established around small lakes all located near state roads or rivers so that goods could be transported easily between them without having to journey through larger settlements or cities. In 1840, George Fisher's son-in-law Abram moved from Michigan to become the first white settler in what would become known as Fishing Township (now Kosciusko County). Abram's wife Anna bore him two children: John (Johnnie) and Sarah (Saranda). One account reports that Anna alone raised over sixty Creek Indians during her lifetime; however numerous accounts mention both parents working together including one which suggests they may have even cooked together some meals! Johnnie later married Fannie Crouch who also lived in Fishing Township until her death in 1916; their descendants still reside there today with their own post office which opened on November 24th 1919. George Fisher died suddenly while out fishing with his son Johnnie on October 10th 1851 at age 44 years old leaving behind three wives plus ten children plus grandchildren – an impressive feat for any family at that time! His widow Sarah took up residence within five days of her husband’s death making her the first female occupant of a male-occupied home west of Stroudsburg Pennsylvania! She soon remarried Thomas Ballard but this too ended in divorce less than six months later due to differences about child custody issues arising from multiple marriages between siblings! Two more daughters followed before Sarah finally married second time farmer Isaac Nunn about 1865; they would eventually have twelve children together including future Congressman James Kapp (1876-1957) who resided in neighboring Decaturt until his death just outside Pettygrove IN 1981! After many years living off milk cows used for traction on muddy roads leading into tiny ponds dotting rural Fischer Lake each day during summertime fishermen decided it was best if they built themselves some type of dock where anglers could landing their catch right off shore - success followed as customers started arriving weekly promising never again to return without fresh catches! nets quickly became ubiquitous throughout downtown fisherman’s Landing……..or “the Landing” as locals called it because no matter how often you shook them they always managed to get something valuable down!!! Even into the 21st century various businesses continue trading here daily providing jobs and income for residents…..just another reminder why these parts are such great place To live & work!!!!!
