Fishers was founded in 1829 by John R. Fisher and his wife, Sarah. The town was originally named "Newburgh" after the then-newtown of Newburgh, New York. In 1881, the name of the town was changed to honor General Ulysses S. Grant with the understanding that it would never again be called "Newburgh." In 1930, a new armory and range were built in the town for use by the Indiana National Guard. At one time, Fishers had over 100 rifle ranges across 4 counties within its borders. On July 26th, 1934 an American KA-BAR knife company opened a store in Fishers as part of an effort to bring more gun sales into the town from out of state. Fishers is a city in and the county seat of Hamilton County, Indiana, United States. The population was 71,813 at the 2010 census. It is the tenth-largest city in Indiana. The name of the city comes from "Fisher's Creek." The first gunfights in Fishers took place on October 26 and 27, 1812 when three Native Americans were killed by John Butler during his Raid on Fort Harrison near present day Fishers. On November 6, 1815, a gunfight took place between American forces under General David Clinton and Native Americans led by Chief Tecumseh at White Sands Lake. In 1829 local entrepreneur Nicholas Simons started manufacturing rifles in what is now known as Fishers Township. In 1846 Anthony Wayne was elected President of United States after being victorious in the presidential election of 4 December 1845. On 2 January 1847 he signed an executive order establishing the Indianapolis National Military Park east of Indianapolis with land that had been donated by George Allen for that purpose. In 1870–71 Andrew Johnson served as Ulysses S Grant's Vice Presidential running mate on the ticket of candidates John Fenton and James Buchanan before becoming President himself two years later on 8 March 1865 after Ulysses S Grant's assassination via shot from a Confederate army cannon during the Battle of Mobile Bay. It was only one year after Johnson's inauguration before he became president when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated on 4 April 1865 following his successful run for office against Ulysses S Grant
Fishers is a small town in the state of Indiana. The population was 5,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Terre Haute, IN Metropolitan Statistical Area. Fishers was founded in 1868 by Abram and Anna Fisher as a farming community on the banks of the White River. The name "Fishers" comes from an early settler, John Fisher, who named his farm after his birthplace, Portsmouth, England. Fishers has been through many changes over the years including being annexed by Terre Haute in 1907 and becoming a city in 1960; it then reverted to a rural zip code in 1984. During its history, Fishers has been known for its large industrial plants which include two paper mills and two steel plants that still operate today. Some of these industries have closed such as Papermate which closed its doors in 2007 and Steelcase which ceased production in 2012 but continues to be operated as a museum open to the public. In recent years, there has been growth within the community with new businesses opening up such as a gas station/convenience store and an optometrist office.

ShotgunTargeting underwent a similar transformation during this time; guns started becoming available with larger barrels that were able to shoot further than ever before . PistolTargeting remained largely unchanged until the late 1960s when handgun hunting transitioned into open air shooting tournaments where anyone could participate .

The current population of fishers stands at over 511 individuals according to the 2010 census which supports their strong sense of community identity and connection statewide
